The Arctic Ocean meets the shore just east of Nuvuk, the northernmost point in the USA, on Nov. 1, 2021. Nuvuk is 9 miles northeast of Utqiaġvik, Alaska. Archaeological evidence indicates that the site was occupied about 1,500 years before the arrival of the first Europeans.

1/2 We had nothing to do with the mailer that went out to many Anchorage homes today. We don’t have that kind of money. And even if we did we wouldn’t spend it on political mailers. Whoever sent it used some of our photos from the recent Anchorage Assembly meetings.

@Brandon81041100 @SporkedTongue @alaskalandmine You can’t use use a photo of someone for promotional or commercial purposes without their consent, doesn’t matter what the image license is. The question is what category of use political flyers fall under

@kttasker @SporkedTongue @alaskalandmine “We put our photos online under a Creative Commons license, which allows anyone to use them for free as long as they provide an appropriate credit.” The photo was properly credited. Plus, political mailers use news photos all the time. This is not what we need to be discussing.

@SporkedTongue @alaskalandmine Yeah of course, that doesn’t mean you can then use the images for whatever else you want. A political flyer is very much not in the news category of ok uses.

@kttasker @alaskalandmine News photos taken in a public place don't need a release. This was literally at a public hearing.

@alaskalandmine So Alaskans for Posterity used the images for a political flyer without getting a model release?
