Marike Janzen, Director of the KU Max Kade Center for German-American Studies, and chair of KU Department of Slavic, German, and Eurasian Studies, Ani Kokobobo, had a great visit this week to the Max Kade Foundation in NYC!

Max Kade Center student assistant, Hannah Kaiser, cleaning historic puppets used to perform "Faust" (part of the MKC's collection) at KU's Spencer Research Library. It looks like Grete is getting special treatment, while Mephisto and Faust are waiting their turn.

We had fun at the Herbstfest last week, when the Max Kade Center hosted the Slavic, German, and Eurasian Studies department's weekly German-speaking "table" on its lawn. There could have been more pictures, but folks were too busy talking and enjoying pretzels and Strudel!

This Thursday, Oct. 19! Come to the Max Kade Center lawn and enjoy apple cider, pretzels, and German conversation with friends.

What a wonderful surprise! Christoph Rosenthal, who now works for the German tv station ARD in Berlin, stopped by this afternoon to visit the Max Kade Center. In 2011, Christoph, drew on the collections at the Center to write his BA thesis. Welcome back to Lawrence, Christoph!

Interesting talk by Prof. Györgi Szönyi on illiberalism in Poland and Hungary at the Max Kade Center, and great turnout! Prof. Szönyi and his wife enjoyed visiting the center, where they were scholars in residence in 2001.
