Pranayama methods are now "Cardiac Coherence Breathing", "Box breathing", "Military Method" etc. Yogic traditions are now "Wim Hoff Method" and "Mindfulness". Ayurvedic therapies like Shirodhara are "Mindful Mind Cleanse." Sophisticated Indian philosophies have already been totally ripped off for centuries drom new "Non-duality theory" to the old "Zen." Generally, the cultural appropriation strategy is simple: Take some traditional Indian stuff, change a few things here and there, do some sudies, conduct research, write some peer reviewed papers, brand it new in English or using a foreign name, call it a new science and market it in true western fashion. They know the brown sepoys are always there in plenty to come, without even calling, and defend with "...But this is not that because this has 4 times breathing and that Pranayama has 8 and this was studied in Stanford, where did your Patanjali study." kind of arguments. There must be some push back by India officially. Everything can't be done over SM by common folks. There must be official Govt level rebuttals and strong statements against such cultural appropriation done in a professional manner. It must be taken up at appropriate forums and organizations.

I feel compelled to speak up. I have been associated with @ishafoundation since 2004. I left a high paying corporate job, took a sabbatical and lived at the Isha Ashram with @SadhguruJV for nearly 3 years during 2008-2010. (Along with my saadhna, I used to teach at @IshaHomeSchool , do translation work and was involved with setting up curriculum for @IshaSamskriti .) I have had the privilege of seeing youngsters self introspect and ‘choose’ to take up the path of Brahmacharya. I have seen the transformations in those youngsters. In sanatan Dharma, living as a Grahastha or a Brahmachari has always been a choice. Our History is laden with powerful examples of Yogis developing in both these paths. To target This tradition while leaving out others similar (I’ll leave it at that) is disappointing. I have interacted with Radhe since she was a little kid. To drag Her in this… if this is not a personal attack at Sadhguru then I don’t know what else to call it. (Now I hear that nearly 100 cops entered ashram while the case is still on to do ‘verification’ and ‘checks’.) I say this with respect. Perhaps we need to sincerely look beyond the incident and ask ourselves Why one certain person from one certain way of living is being targeted (I don’t know what other word to use). @ShefVaidya @Shehzad_Ind @tehseenp @RatanSharda55 @virendersehwag @shekharkapur @AmritanshuGupta

I just spent 2 weeks at @ishafoundation Ashram. @SadhguruJV has created a haven there, where men & women from all backgrounds find peace and spiritual succour. You can be a householder or a monk there; the choice is yours. The said Hon Judges of Madras HC should spend some time at the ashram; they may themselves find peace. For the crass remarks on Sadhguru's daughter by the Hon HC judges, were certainly uncalled for; and says more about the judges themselves, than the Ashram.
