Just as against Baptiste, Sabalenka gets the key break at 5-4 to snatch a very tight first set against Rybakina.

Hailey Baptiste played so well but three DFs in the 5-4 game was such a shame to end it that way. Sabalenka played her consistently excellent game and sets up a rematch with Rybakina.

Baptiste seemed to be ahead on points in that first set, holding easier, having break points but there’s a reason Sabalenka is number 1. First break point chance for Aryna was a set point and there’s the set 6-4

How on earth did Zhang Shuai hit a winner match point down in the match tiebreak that was in by probably a millimetre!! Poor Pegula didn’t have the luck today…

Talia Gibson is an impressive player. Overpowers Jovic for a 6-2 first set lead. Very powerful from Gibson.

@christianscourt Sabalenka was not really trying on Li’s serve in set 2 once she had the break. Sensible energy conservation….

Sabalenka wins the tie break (of course) to take the first set over Ann Li but it was really hard work and she had a super fortunate let cord at 5-5! Her tie break record continues to be astounding though….

@christianscourt It’s hard work for a slightly weary looking Sabalenka but Ann Li playing really well.

Sabalenka had SEVEN break points for 5-3 but Ann Li holds for 4-4. Aryna was up 4-1 in this set. #MiamiOpen
