@meet_abhijit I wonder if India has really progressed in weather under @IMDWeather in adding observatories as it has to be with India being such a dynamic weather model with temp changing within few kms. Heat, wind & rain may seem unrelated, but are siblings & they need to be closely tracked.

A consecutive 4th day of #heatwave conditions gripped interior #Konkan today, with temperatures once again soaring into the 40–44°C range. 🌡️🔥 Between Saturday and Monday, almost every major interior station across the region registered its #hottest May temperatures in at least the last 13 years, based on available local observations. Saturday across the belt from Mumbra to Badlapur witnessed hottest May in 13 years at least. By Sunday, parts of Panvel and #Khalapur also entered record territory. Today, further expanded across Mulund, Thane, Neral, Karjat and parts of Palghar district, where many locations recorded their hottest #May conditions in over a decade. Overall, much of interior North #Kokan has now experienced its hottest May phase in at least the last 13 years, with several stations enduring four consecutive days of 41°C+ temperatures — a remarkably persistent and widespread heatwave event for the region. ⚠️ It is important to note that there is no official documentation available for many of these records due to the lack of adequate official #weather observatories across interior Kokan and the eastern #MMR region. Hence, the above analysis has been carried out independently by monitoring all available weather data sources in personal capacity — including #PWS networks, municipal stations, disaster management stations and hydrology department observations — to better capture the actual ground-level heat conditions prevailing across the region. Maximum #temperatures on 11-05-2026: #Suksale 44.3°C #Birwadi 44.2 #Karjat 44.1 #Bhatsanagar 44 #Neral 43.8 #Ambernath 43.2 #Palava 43.1 #Kalyan 43 #Dombivli 42.9 #Manor 42.8 #Badlapur 42.7 #Taloja 42.6 #Morbe 42.2 #Kalwa 41.9 #Mumbra 41.8 #Kharghar 41.5 #Chiplun 41.4 #Airoli 41.3 #Panvel 41.2 #Thane 41.1 #Diva 41 #Koparkhairane 40.9 #Mulund 40.8 #Digha 40.7 #Kanjurmarg 40 #NaviMumbai Airport 39.7 #Nerul 39 #Vashi 38.7 #Belapur 38.1 Meanwhile as expected, coastal Kokan also witnessed a rise in #temperature 🌊 #Palghar 40.1°C #Virar 39.1 #Alibaug 38.2 #Dahanu 37.9 #Borivali 37.7 #Deonar 37.4 #Dapoli 37.2 #Uttan 36.5 #Mumbai SCZ 35.8 #Maharashtra

As expected, widespread #Thunderstorm activity developed along the #SahyadriGhat section of #Maharashtra — from #Igatpuri #Bhimashankar #Tamhini #Mahabaleshwar to #Amboli — under the influence of a lower-level wind discontinuity (#LWD). 🌩️ The drifting cells brought #rainfall over parts of #Shahapur, #Murbad, and #Karjat talukas. Meanwhile, eastern #MMR witnessed duststorm to drizzle activity across the #Dombivli, #Kalyan, #Ulhasnagar, #Ambernath, and #Badlapur belt. #Shelu, #Neral recorded 12 mm of #Rainfall, with temperatures plunging to 24°C at 3:30 PM from 40.8°C at 2:30 PM — a massive drop of nearly 17°C within just one hour. 🌧️🌡️⚡ Video below. 👇 👉 A classic example of intense pre-monsoon convective cooling associated with thunderstorm outflow. As wind confluence gets established, westerlies are expected to penetrate inland up to the ghat base by afternoon hours, leading to temporary lower-level wind discontinuity (#LWD) formation across the ghats and adjoining leeward Deccan #Maharashtra. 🌩️🌬️ Under this setup, parts of southern and southeastern #MH may witness convective activity from today into the weekend, with some interior south #Konkan ghat-base locations also having chances of isolated #thunderstorm activity with drifting west nature. #WeatherAnalysis #KonkanWeather

During the Pune hailstorm yesterday.. I found this uncle catching hailstones and eating… jumping with joy.. And he kept on doing that for 10 minutes. Must have eaten like 250gms of ice This was in an IT park and the person looked like a senior-level executive… loved how the way he let his inner kid take over the fun. Cheers to him..

As explained earlier, a dipping #WD mid-level trough has extended up to the NE Arabian Sea, triggering #thunderstorms over #Gujarat. At the same time, low-level wind convergence is driving scattered #thunderstorm activity across #Deccan #Maharashtra. 🌩️ Outlook: A fast-moving WD trough may impact North #Konkan between late night of 19th and early hours of 20th March, bringing a brief passing shower or thunderstorm from the west. This setup currently looks more favourable for the #Virar#Palghar#Dahanu belt. For #Mumbai and #Thane, chances depend on fresh convective pop-ups, which can only be confirmed via nowcasting. #WeatherAnalysis #WeatherUpdate #KonkanWeather #Kokan pre-#Monsoon activity #GudiPadwa #HinduNavvarsh #Gudhipadwa2026

Many may ask why #Konkan including #Mumbai is mostly missing out on the current rain activity. At present, the wind convergence zone is favourable from the #Sahyadri ghat base toward the leeward interior of #Maharashtra. Upper-level winds then steer thunderstorms from west to east once they form. Because of this, the #Konkan coastal strip remains on the opposite side of the storm formation zone. So from Mumbai we mostly see cumulonimbus clouds forming on the eastern horizon, which then drift further into the interior. This is why pre-monsoon activity is currently favouring the #Nashik, #Pune, #Sambhajinagar to #Nagpur belt. For #Mumbai to receive thunderstorms, a dipping #WesternDisturbance trough is usually needed to trigger convection offshore in the Arabian Sea, which can then drift toward the coast. So the situation needs to be monitored closely, and it may become clearer by 18–19 March around #GudhiPadwa whether Mumbai gets any chance of activity or not. Meanwhile, some hit-or-miss #Thunderstorm chances may persist along the #Ghat base across #Palghar, #Thane, #Raigad, #Ratnagiri and #Sindhudurg. 🌩️ #KonkanWeather

Many are surprised with clear visibility suddenly? But in real it is common phenomena when you have weather systems ruling over tropics.. I’ve been observing clear visibility of around 50 km since childhood, and such clarity is quite common when a weather system is active in the region. For tropical areas like ours, these conditions typically occur between May and November. Many compare this visibility to what’s often seen in subtropical regions such as the U.S. or Europe, but those areas experience weather systems year-round, which maintain clearer air more consistently. In contrast, during winter in our region, high-pressure systems, weak surface winds, and temperature inversions tend to trap moisture and pollutants near the surface, thereby limiting visibility. #WeatherAnalysis #KonkanWeather #MumbaiRains #WeatherUpdate #Maharashtra #AQI #clear #visibility

Exactly. I respect @meet_abhijit 's posts as they don't create fear-mongering in the name of weather forecasts. See the last para. I think the weather is under nature's control & not humans. It can change any minute. How can we predict nature? Nope. No technology can. Or floods, droughts etc would never happen. Too many young, random weather 'influencers' (with less knowledge but just forecasting as a hobby) helped by media (through coverage) are popping up with scary symbols like these 🔴⚠️🟠🌦 just for followers. They even have their own follower trolls now. 🙄
