Excellent presentation @Hendriks_FK Definitely need exercise interventions earlier in CKD journey to prevent muscle wasting later. Smaller improvements in physical function in dialysis might be too late. @GREXercise #ICRNM22

What is the strategic intent of such lies? For domestic consumption only? Showing the West he defies rationality? Why bother getting on the phone if this is what you're going to say?

@alunieczka @NephJC Would go one step farther - some patients will enjoy gamification… others may not. We really neee to focus on giving patients the autonomy to choose whatever activity they want. During dialysis or out of clinic. Games. Or standard exercise. #NephJC

One of biggest challenges is that exercise on dialysis is boring. Our challenge is to remind our patients how exercise can be enjoyable #NephJC

Hi #NephTwitter. I want to implement an intradialytic exercise program for my patients. I need to know the names/pics of the cycle machines that you are using so that I can refer to them during our upcoming budget meeting. Can you help my patients & I? Thanks. #askrenal

The threshold identification of Ballots is turning out to be even bigger than originally anticipated. A very large number of Ballots are impacted. Stay tuned!

@NDTsocial @GREXercise @KidneyPatients @EIMnews This study in CKD and the recent paper by Gamboa in ESKD once again show how hard it is to INCREASE muscle in CKD and renal failure. Maintenance of muscle is good, but have to keep working to IMPROVE the data. COMPREHENSIVE interventions are needed!

@PrimaryCarePAC @GREXercise Great question. there are no evidence based recommendations. Note that there are rare dialysis patients who do HEAVY resistance training with no complications. But typical advice is to limit weight lifted to an arbitrarily low amount (e.g. 25 pounds). But no evidence for this

@GREXercise and friends. Are there any exercise limitations in intensity, max effort, etc in someone with a mature working forearm AV fistula for HD access? I understand recs to avoid activity in that arm after dialysis for hemostasis. Thanks.

Interesting study! Getting CKD patients to move more, by any means necessary, has benefits! But the study reiterates findings from MANY others: sustained counseling is needed, and that will require sustained funding for exercise professionals! Individualized Rxs are needed!
Global Renal Exercise Network@GREXercise

A pilot RCT assessing a short-term walking intervention in people on dialysis, found that the intervention increased step counts, but the increase was not sustained, highlighting the need to develop programs with continued counselling to sustain benefits. bit.ly/3iKU6Ak

Another thing this study surprised me was that STS-10 was used. From our experience, our patients might even have trouble with 5x STS. #GREXJC

More questions :) 2) Both the adherence to IDC and functional training seemed to drop during phase 2. What could be the causes for this? 3) How did you encourage your participants to overcome the barriers to exercise which were listed in the discussion session? #GREXJC
