A few days ago, I was down in the Cupola while we were watching the @NASAArtemis II launch broadcast. As I was floating there, I saw the full Moon rising just past the tip of the Canadarm2. The arm is a crucial part of the @Space_Station, developed by our partners at the @csa_asc. I thought it a fitting image, taken just a few hours before @Astro_Jeremy became the first Canadian to embark on a voyage to the Moon.

Make new friends, but keep the old. A new photo captures the Moon's near side on the right (the side we see from Earth, identifiable by its dark splotches) and its far side on the left. The Artemis II crew are the first to see the far side with human eyes.

Downloaded the full res jpeg file from the recent @NASAArtemis lunar photo. With the saturation increased and some slight noise reduction the differing colours of the Lunar Mare are nicely caught. Just above centre at the 11 o'clock position is the Aristarchus Plateau - an area well known to show notable colour tones. Various other coloured areas are also seen - which reflect differing mineral composition of the surface. Mare Orientale is seen at lower left, while the large crater at upper left on the terminator is Landau.

Artemis II - Some milestone figures for Monday's big day: Slightly before 2 p.m. Eastern, Integrity will surpass the Apollo 13 distance record for humans, which stands at 248,655 statute miles. Around 7:07 p.m. Eastern, they will reach the farthest distance from Earth at 252,760 miles — 4,105 miles farther than Apollo 13. youtube.com/watch?v=8n1GGe…

POV: You're flying by the Moon. This visualization is designed to show you what exactly the Artemis II astronauts will see outside their window during their lunar flyby. Here, the seven-hour visualization is compressed into 28 seconds. ⬇ (1/4)

Lock in, we’re Moonbound. Artemis II astronauts are more than halfway to their destination, and preparations for lunar flyby are underway. During their trip around the far side of the Moon, they will capture imagery to share with scientists (and you, too!).
