@AliieAstrea In the past they’ve endorsed straight conservative Democrats over gay candidates because they’re more beholden to their donors than the broader community. Not to mention pushing back hard against anybody trying to do any grassroots queer organizing an inch to the left of them.

@kyclasswarrior Related: disappointed in Fairness Campaign’s local endorsements (of boring ass establishment candidates, ex:Mark England, just because they are gay)

May is apparently the month when all the local bourgeois queer institutions are deciding to reveal themselves as Zionist, transmisogynist, or both.

Marxists also understand that some radical ideals from the liberal revolutions in America and France are in our political lineage, though they were quickly extinguished afterward. This is separate from embracing a sort of liberal civic patriotism.

Liberals and nationalists have been fighting over competing visions of the American Revolution since 1776. “Wokeness” to the nationalists has never been the left-wing critique of the USA as an ideal; if anything they hate the liberals more.
ettingermentum@ettingermentum

AOC describing the American Revolution as part of the lineage of her political project is maybe the most profound victory anti-wokeness has or could ever see but of course rightoids are too braindead to even recognize that.

@KraushTakes Nick has been pretty consistent on this one, they’re as hostile to paper endorsements as any of the amc cadre who made them weird. Maybe more to the point, it seems normal that the mayoral race in the second biggest city in the country would attract a bit more attention.

@Burner1634443 Yes that’s been been eminently clear from the round of “DSA endorses Steyer” reactions. It didn’t literally happen, I share the definition of endorsement as everyone else in DSA, but we don’t control other people.

@kyclasswarrior I actually think that statements of support also ultimately do kind of drift into the more formal definition of endorsement, because dsas credibility and brand is a resource.

DSA defines “endorsement” as a commitment of time and resources, but most organizations and the general public define it as just a statement of support. We can only project our meaning of “endorsement” by refraining from statements of support for candidates we don’t endorse.

New Yorkers don't just have the right to protest the sale of stolen Palestinian land -- they have a responsibility to. NYPD should be protecting our first amendment rights, not blocking and pepper spraying us when we exercise them.
Gerard@GerardDalbon

Cops started attacking pro-Palestine protesters who are marching around the block to evade police barricades that are blocking off several streets. People in the crowd were just pepper sprayed and shoved with metal barricades. Several cops were mad they pepper sprayed themselves.

Mayor Greenberg’s budget proposal again includes deep cuts to the Soil and Water Conservation District and the local Extension office. The proposed cuts, if enacted, would mark the lowest funding levels for either office in Louisville Metro history. courier-journal.com/story/news/loc…

People are surprised about this but Curtis Sliwa is Catholic and the median American Catholic (especially in NYC) has similar opinions about British imperialism in Ireland.
Ounka@OunkaOnX

Curtis Sliwa just reminded British royalty of their history. 'Your king and queen laid flowers at the 9/11 memorial But a block away is the memorial to the Irish famine. Your royalty was responsible for killing a million Irish. You never apologized. They have a lot to apologize for

It is May Day. The socialist movement and the labor movement have joined hands in the city square for a celebration. The sun is breaking through the clouds. A new world is struggling to be born. The workers will win, we are going to win.

🚨 Hasan Piker and Chris Rabb Lay Out the DSA Playbook for Using the Democratic Ballot Line Against the Party This clip is a clean look at the socialist left’s bizarre frenemy relationship with the Democratic Party. Hasan opens by attacking Democrats directly. They “don’t love you,” “don’t care about you,” and “don’t care about your interests.” But he does not tell people to leave the party. He tells them the Democratic primary is the battlefield because it “determines the trajectory of the Democratic Party.” Then Chris Rabb picks up the thread. Rabb says he “identif[ies] as a democratic socialist,” but is “running as a Democrat because the system creates this narrowness.” In other words, the Democratic label is not the identity. It is the vehicle. Rabb makes that even clearer moments later. He says Democrats may share the same label “in this moment,” but “we are very different.” Then he tells voters, “You don’t have to love the Democratic Party to vote for me. I do not care because I’m not here for the party. I’m here for the people.” The result is a strange but increasingly effective hostile partnership. The DSA needs the Democratic ballot line because third-party politics is a dead end. The Democratic Party keeps absorbing candidates who openly reject it. And over time, that one-way arrangement lets the socialist left take more ground inside the party while still pretending to be outsiders. But what do Democrats actually get out of this arrangement?
