Last February I started dating Mike. This past February he proposed and I said yes. He was in the process of starting his divorce when doctors discovered a tumor in his stomach. He died last night. His family refused to let me say goodbye. Monday, his last text to me was

In few other professions does the means of production equate to the literal body of the laborer. Remember: “the show must go on” always benefits the producer more than the performer.

@tlecaque "Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword." Christians look for every excuse to explain away gun violence when all they need to do is open their holy book and read the words of their Lord.

I hate that I’ve been raised in a culture where my existence is defined by the work I’m doing. It’s impossible to relax

I’ve got no pressing deadlines. All my projects are in good spots. Summer class #1 is wrapping up smoothly and #2 doesn’t start until July. So why the hecking heck do feel so stressed out??!!

Smh: Of the 20 most-produced high school plays, only one is by a woman (D.W. Gregory’s Radium Girls). Musicals fare a little better, with Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Nell Benjamin, Tina Fey, Tina Landau, Lynn Ahrens, Jeanine Tesori, and ABBA on the list. schooltheatre.org/2023-play-surv…

Look, I love the Bard as much as anyone, but let’s be real: #Theatre in all its forms is a social collective—a summation of parts—that is/was designed to address social issues via storytelling. I 100% support this series, but let’s not pretend such an aim was invented by Shax

@ClearShakes Right!? That’s the joy of being a medieval drama scholar. So many plays are anonymous so I can just ascribe an author’s name. Everyman? That was written my Johan Boringnature. My evidence? You can’t prove that it wasn’t written by him. Boom!

@Sthrndirecturg Yes. Which is why teaching a variety of techniques to actors is so important. All roughly aim for an affectual response much like you describe, but differ in the “paths” an actor might take to get there. So, an actor learns many to better find their most effective approach

next big question: can an actor manufacture a reality which induces their hormonal responses such that they transmit a specific affect to an audience? (i.e. can you force yourself to sweat in fear of something you know isn't real?)
