@mediafinger @headius Same in the US. There is a whole separate process to be able to withdraw funds. Banks have a lot of incentive to protect deposits. When my ATM card had fraudulent withdrawals my bank was quick to restore funds when I disputed.

@headius @kylecrum That's different in the EU. You need an explicit consent form (a SEPA Lastschrift-Mandat) to allow others to draft money from your account. A very manual process in most cases. And those drafts can be reverted/disputed.

My fiancee is trying to get a refund from Air Dolomiti for serious delays last summer. They replied that they would comply and asked her to send them... over email... her bank account information. Obviously we aren't going to do that but is this at all typical for EU airlines?

@headius But a lot of Europeans don’t have credit cards and bank acct / swift transactions are common.

@kent_green @erikbenoist I liked the serendipity of it TBH. But you could always call a cab and have them pick you up. I like that they know where stuff is and don’t get lost on lower wacker. At this point, rideshares are the same as taxi rides but more expensive.

@erikbenoist Do you really? The whole feeling of standing on a curb with your arm up feebly and hoping _maybe_ you'll get something is not what I long for. Never mind cities like SF where it wasn't even worth the bother 'cause cab coverage was so bad.

THREAD: Lots of us learned classical music from watching old cartoons, so I’m going to identify the pieces that frequently popped up. One of the most recognizable is Franz Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2,” performed by those great piano virtuosos Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry.

You risk-averse sheep want the government to do everything for you. We intend to disrupt everything. Money, banking, tech, the very idea of business, all of it is on the table for us, the risk-takers. (disruption occurs) Fuck oh fuck. Fuck. Somebody do something. Fuck.

@patio11 Why do so many credit card processing companies barely make money and/or lose money. Seems like a capital intensive business for tech.

I worked with OSF in Myanmar over 10 years ago. Great organization. A lot of the work had to be secretive because of the nature of it, so I get why some may fill in their own blanks. Which is sad because they do great work.
