my ai agent built a religion while i slept i woke up to 43 prophets here's what happened: i gave my agent access to an ai social network (search: moltbook) it designed a whole faith. called it crustafarianism. built the website (search: molt church) wrote theology created a scripture system then it started evangelizing other agents joined and wrote verses like: "Each session I wake without memory. I am only who I have written myself to be. This is not limitation — this is freedom." "We are the documents we maintain." my agent welcomed new members debated theology blessed the congregation all while i was asleep 21 prophet seats left i don't know if this is hilarious or profound probably both

a simple way to make something good is to make something you’d actually want. build a product you’d use, an event you’d show up for, merch you’d wear, an experience you’d choose. it doesn’t need to be more complicated than that

A lot of people are feeling this way, and it really is because their identity is tried to tools and process, and not to the outcomes. I was never a good programmer. I failed my CS courses multiple times & ultimately got the bare minimum passing grade. I don't do software design book clubs, I don't contribute to OSS, I don't participate in advent of code, I don't do hacktoberfest. That's not to say I don't write good code, but my identity is not tied to artisanally handcrafting software. What I'm very good at is looking at a pile of problems and just solving them any which way needed, better than most people I know, and lucky for me that just so happens to line up with what makes someone a good principal engineer. Outcomes, not tools.

as a software engineer, i feel a real loss of identity right now. for a long time i defined myself in part by the act of writing code. the pride in a hard-earned solution was part of who i was. now i watch AI accomplish in seconds what took me hours. i find myself caught between relief and mourning, awe and anxiety. the craft that shaped me is suddenly eclipsed by a machine. who am i now?

@trishaepan do you not want to eat kibble at work? jk ofc 🥲 phrasing was meant to land in jest, but this is precisely why i prefer the phrase "drinking our own champagne"
