@termofilos Do you have any of your SIO travel/research funds left? You may know this, but each SIO grad student is allowed up to $3k during their tenure, and you can absolutely use it to purchase a laptop. Reimbursement-based, which sucks, but better than nothing!
Been actively looking for a job, and decided to run my resume through an AI resume reviewer (similar to what recruiters/hiring managers use), and it thinks my most recent employer was THE SURFACE OF MARS.
If you need me, I’ll be in the corner spiraling thank you 🫠
@gramnegativity Are they plugged into surge protectors? All of our power outages have been scheduled, but we haven’t had any issues with our centrifuges/thermal cycles, which are plugged into the same surge protector.
@bielleogy@shah_ps I started my senior pup on cosequin (a glucosamine supplement) when he started twisting his knee/hip joints jumping off the couch, something he does regularly. I think it’s been helping! He hasn’t twisted any joints since and is generally moving around well.
@gramnegativity UGHH hate when that happens!! It’s honestly looking amazing though! My mom always says nobody else will notice because nobody is as critical about our work as we are, and even though I’m mad about it, she’s right 🫤
@offgridteacher There is a way to make the apps at least slightly larger (had to do this for my aunt). It doesn’t make a massive difference, but may help some? This link explains how to do it: howtoisolve.com/how-to-change-…
My dad has declining vision. He’s been using enlarged print on his iPhone, but needs more help, so I set up text-to-speech. Unfortunately, the enlarged print makes it hard to navigate- but it only enlarges text (ie not icons, navigation, etc). Any ideas on how else to help?
Anyone have a prickly pear plant they’d be willing to share a piece of? Happy to trade for some of mine or a cutting from an indoor plant!
Been nursing my prickly pear for years and it finally flowered, just for me to learn you need 2 genetically distinct plants to get fruit 🫠
Writing up my dissertation. I tried ~10 DNA extraction protocols on my sediments, & named one the “Frankenstein” protocol b/c it was a mix of (what I thought were the best parts of) the other protocols. Can I call it the Frankenstein protocol in my diss. (Supp. Methods)?
@membranebiology@phylogenomics I have this same one in my bedroom and it’s nice and quiet. Has a HEPA filter. I got it to help with pet dander/allergies and it does a great job. It’ll notify you when it’s time to replace the filter. Can get replacements on Amazon or at Target, and they’re easy to swap out.
Wanted - recommendations for good / not too expensive / not too loud air filter to get my daughter for her for a small dorm room in California (and thus to filter out pathogens, allergens and smoke ...)
This is what I get for trying to take a cute pic with my dogs 🤦🏻♀️😂
But for real I’m not sure what I did to deserve these dogs but boy am I thankful for them. Was really in a funk today and a walk + grass cuddle sesh has made a world of difference.
Would anyone be willing to share lecture slides for an undergraduate General Microbiology course for Biology majors? Starting from scratch 🥴 I'm using Brock Biology of Microorganisms, but will accept any relevant help!
@gramnegativity Wow wow wow, a part of the internet I didn’t know I needed 😂 Was a tad concerned when I clicked on the “Big Boy Statue” category, but that is by far my personal fav
Been getting Home Depot ads because my sister has been around a lot and is doing a renovation. Starting to get VERY concerned about her design choices.
Setting up my lab at @UofMemphisBio, and I'm hoping to welcome MS and/or PhD students in Spring or Fall 2024! Please share and reach out if you are interested in how pollutants and environmental change impact host-associated microbes in marine and freshwater systems!
