When a child finds the courage to speak up about abuse, everything that follows matters. Your first response is not just emotional, it is protective. ▪️Staying calm helps the child feel safe enough to continue speaking. ▪️Believing them reassures them that they are not alone or imagining things. ▪️Avoiding confrontation or investigation protects them from further harm and ensures the right processes can take over. What they need most in that moment is reassurance, not doubt. If a child confides in you, your role is to listen, protect, and seek professional support immediately. What you do next can shape their sense of safety for years to come. 📞 For support or to report, contact Lagos DSVA via the toll-free line 0-8000-333-333. #LagosDSVA #ChildAbusePreventionMonth #SGBVItConcernsUsAll #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG @followlasg

JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED ⚖️ Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday, 16 April 2026, convicted and sentenced 63-year-old cleric to life imprisonment for raping a church member’s daughter. His name will be entered into the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by Lagos State, in line with Sections 33 and 38 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, 2021. In delivering judgment, Justice Oshodi held that the defendant abused his position of authority and trust to exploit the victim, describing the act as a “reprehensible betrayal.” During the trial, the prosecution, led by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr. Babajide Martins, presented five witnesses, including the victim, her mother, and a medical doctor, alongside medical and documentary evidence. Although the defendant claimed the relationship was consensual, the court rejected this, holding that rape was proven beyond reasonable doubt. The defendant was convicted on three counts of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment, with sentences to run concurrently. “The law must protect the vulnerable, and this court will not hesitate to punish abuse of trust in the strongest terms,” - Hon. Justice Oshodi. Let’s continuously break the culture of silence ! This is one of the most uncomfortable truths about child protection, but it’s one we cannot ignore. Child Abuse usually doesn’t happen in unusual places or by strangers. It happens in familiar spaces, with familiar people, which is why prevention has to start from within our homes and communities. Teaching children blind obedience without boundaries can put them at risk. What they need instead is awareness, confidence, and the assurance that their voice matters. ▪️Create a safe space where your child can speak freely. ▪️Teach them that their body belongs to them. ▪️Be intentional about who they are left alone with. These conversations may feel difficult, but they are necessary. Prevention starts with us! 📞 For support or to make a report, contact Lagos DSVA via the toll-free line 0-8000-333-333. #LagosDSVA #ChildAbusePreventionMonth #SGBVItConcernsUsAll #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG @followlasg

LAGOS STATE DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE AGENCY LAUNCHES PURPLE LAGOS CAMPUS ACTIVATION, TARGETS 15,000 STUDENTS ACROSS 15 HIGHER INSTITUTIONS The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has formally commenced its Purple Lagos Campus Activation, a structured sensitisation and awareness campaign designed to reach over 15,000 students across 15 public and private higher institutions of learning in Lagos State. The activation, which runs from April to July 2026, represents one of the Agency's most ambitious campus-level interventions to date in the fight against Sexual & Gender-Based Violence. The initiative was flagged off on Tuesday, April 15th, 2026, at the Lagos State College of Health Technology, marking the first of 15 institutions to be visited in the coming weeks. The choice of a health-focused institution as the campaign's inaugural venue is both symbolic and strategic, underscoring the critical role that future healthcare professionals play in identifying, responding to, and referring survivors of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence. Speaking on the significance of the activation, the Executive Secretary of Lagos DSVA, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, reaffirmed the Lagos State Government's commitment to embedding a culture of awareness, accountability, and zero tolerance for Sexual & Gender-Based Violence within tertiary education environments across the state. Higher institutions, she noted, are not insulated from the realities of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence. Students, many of whom are navigating independence for the first time, are among the most vulnerable, yet least reached demographics in prevention campaigns. "Our campuses must become safe spaces, not just in policy, but in practice," she stated. "The Purple Lagos Campus Activation is our commitment to ensuring that every student across Lagos State understands what Sexual & Gender-Based Violence looks like, knows their rights, and is equipped with the knowledge of where to seek help." Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Provost of the Lagos State College of Health Technology, Dr. Oluronke Islamiyyat Agoro, expressed the institution’s full support for the campaign. “As educators, our responsibility extends beyond the classroom, and we are proud to work with Lagos DSVA in ensuring that our students are informed, protected, and empowered to speak up against Sexual & Gender-Based Violence.” she said. The Purple Lagos Campus Activation will bring professionals, trained advocates, and resource materials directly into campus communities, creating interactive touchpoints that go beyond passive awareness. Activities across each institution will include sensitisation sessions, survivor-centred conversations, information dissemination on DSVA's free and confidential support services, and engagement with student unions, campus health units, and institution leadership. Students will also be equipped with referral pathways and information on the Agency's 24-hour helpline. The activation targets a diverse mix of institutions spanning science and technology colleges, universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, reflecting the Agency's recognition that Sexual & Gender-Based Violence cuts across academic disciplines, socioeconomic backgrounds, and institutional types. Both public and private institutions are included in the campaign's scope. With fourteen more institutions still to be visited before the close of July 2026, DSVA remains steadfast in its commitment to a Lagos where awareness drives action, and no student is left behind. JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED ⚖️ Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, on Monday, 13th April 2026, convicted and sentenced Victor Dickson to life imprisonment for defiling his neighbour’s six-month-old baby. His name will be entered into the Sex Offenders Register, as maintained by Lagos State, in line with Sections 33 and 38 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, 2021. While delivering judgment, Justice Oshodi held that the prosecution proved the charge of sexual assault by penetration beyond reasonable doubt. The judge stated that the circumstantial evidence presented was compelling and clearly pointed to the convict’s guilt, noting that Dickson’s attempts to distance himself from the crime were unconvincing. Describing the victim as extremely vulnerable, the court recounted how the child’s mother testified that Dickson took the baby while she was outside washing clothes, carried her into his room, and assaulted her. “You betrayed the trust reposed in you. The child cried throughout but could not call for help,” Justice Oshodi said. The court stressed the need to protect society and deter similar crimes, describing the act as “animalistic”. The offense committed contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, and consequently, the court sentenced Dickson to life imprisonment. Let’s continue to break the culture of silence. Sometimes, children don’t have the words to explain what they’re going through but their behaviour often speaks volumes. A sudden change in mood, fear, or habits is not something to ignore. It could be a child’s way of asking for help. As parents, guardians, and caregivers, paying attention is one of the most powerful ways we can protect them. If something doesn’t feel right, trust that instinct. Protecting children begins with noticing the signs. 📞 For support or to report, contact Lagos DSVA via our toll-free line 0-8000-333-333. #LagosDSVA #ChildAbusePreventionMonth #SGBVItConcernsUsAll #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG @followlasg
