1. La equivalencia no es para el lector, es para Edward. Durante toda la obra, el intenta arreglar y solucionar todo por medio de la alquimia. Para el, y en parte para Alphonse, es algo muy importante y que prácticamente los diferencia del resto. La gracia es que el se da cuenta que la alquimia no es lo que lo identifica, el es simplemente un humano y siempre lo ha sido, con o sin alquimia el va seguir siendo el y va a seguir teniendo a sus seres queridos. 2. Como tal podría haberlo hecho desde el principio y eso también es en parte la ironía de todo, la respuesta siempre estuvo delante de el, pero al necesitar su alquimia para casi todo, simplemente ni siquiera se le paso por la cabeza. 3. El hecho de que no acepte el sacrificio de su padre, simplemente demuestra lo fiel que es a su hermano, ambos prometieron recuperar sus cuerpos sin usar la vida de OTROS (incluye piedras filosofales). El simple hecho de que Hohenhaime quiera sacrificar su vida para traer de nuevo a Alphonse, ya es suficiente para el, es por eso también que Ed le dice por primera vez papá en ese momento, porque lo perdono por todo. (Ademas Hohenhaime ni tiene pecados graves, el fue manipulado en el pasado y encima su castigo fue el vivir durante mil años sin ningún motivo ni ganas, no fue hasta que conoció a Trisha y tuvo a sus hijos que cambió ese pensamiento, al final de la obra lo último que dice es que ahora no quiere morir).
