Major news organizations that have the resources (@nytimes, @washingtonpost, @wsj, etc.) need to put aside their rivalries and build a safe social media for rapid news dissemination and responsible discussion. Twitter isn't it anymore.

Biked to and from Court of Federal Claims today for oral arguments. It sucked. Insanely windy; my ears hurt. Difference between me—a regular joe—and “cyclists” is those weirdos would think this builds character.

News organizations: it is contrary to your stated professional ethics to continue to publish on a platform directed by the whims of a man directly involved in the incoming administration, who has shown no hesitation in tilting the algorithm to suppress speech he disagrees with.

t's completely worthless putting people like this on the news. They don't actually know anything about what Trump is going to do. None of his surrogates do! And while there he spreads dangerous misinfo about autism being caused by vaccines. Just say no, CNN. It's malpractice!

@froomkin The value of Twitter was the people. We can reconstitute the community in a place not under the control of a partisan like Musk. There's just no reason to stay and every reason to leave.

Starting Monday I won't be continuing at this site. Or as "press critic online most of the time." For a while Twitter was a way to do journalism education in public, for a public— and for free. I think I was effective at times in that role. I no longer know how that's done. 1/

It's not our place as journalists to say whether the right person won. That's for the voters to decide. The question we should be asking ourselves is: did we produce an informed electorate, equipped to make that choice?
