As a kid I loved listening to the BBC World Service (on 648 kHz I think). For a 10-year-old from Chingford it was a very special window on the world. So, for World Radio Day, I play some classic @bbcworldservice signature tunes. #WorldRadioDay

@BBCSteveR Lovely tribute. I met him as a teenager when my father (Kenneth) invited him to dinner. A broadcasting colossus.

@SomersetCCC @ItsTradeNation Copious congratulations - a wonderfully fitting way to celebrate a century and a half! #blackbird

Definitely! And in his autobiography Sir Viv explains just how good a captain Clive Lloyd was.

@MichaelBarber9 Trust Sir Viv would be included therein!

@BeefyBotham Beefy - enduring admirer (and briefly interviewer) of yours, I beg to differ. The pitch was prepared in an attempt to break a cycle of bore draws with the Kookaburra ball. It succeeded. 400 runs were scored on day one. Wouldn’t you have enjoyed that?

Before a ball is bowled… As an ex Somerset player I find this appalling... at a time when County Cricket is under pressure for relevance as a breeding ground for International
Players and Somerset members have apparently voted for the status quo, the club produces this pitch. These are not first class cricket conditions in midsummer... I am not surprised that Rob and Ben unfortunately have to disregard county performances in assessing players for Test quality appearances. Durham raised serious concerns the day before the game started... change is needed...both Somerset and Durham have high quality batsmen... Somerset do not need to do this... reduces the game to a farce.

@MichaelLCrick Nothing, in addition to which he’s one of the best communicators in the Commons.

@LancsCCMG @edwardscricket Splendid Paul - I have a feeling David Foot would have been chortling!

The bard of Birkdale @edwardscricket is worth the subscription to the Cricketer alone. His match reports at Lord's this week are wonderful.
"But MCC is changing. The club is positively bear-hugging diversity, and the range of merchandise on sale in the shop behind the pavilion has expanded to include dog leads, pashminas, ponchos, golf club covers, and designer watches – "a snip at £2,500 to you, sir". What next, one wonders? Condoms, perhaps, although presumably they would only be sold to full members."

@steverichards14 I used to value BBC political programmes, by virtue of the in-depth interviewing. No longer. Whatever happened to editorial independence?
English

Seven guests in an hour.. less than any of them would get on rolling news channels during the week.. this shallow format has killed the Sunday political altar on BBC as a weekly event:
