Cultural Disorientation. /noun/ When you know your culture isn't great, but you don't know why. Often results in uninformed attempts to create culture through ill-advised activity.

example. "That unpaid after-work 'happy hour' was a direct result of cultural disorientation."

It’s not people vs. profit. Stop viewing people ops as a cost center and start leveraging it for profit. Engagement + Retention (people) = $$$ (profits) That’s worth inventing in!

@safetywing Self awareness. Remote employees are at higher risk for burnout. Knowing where your personal boundaries are and having the self discipline to shut off the apps to actually disconnect when you aren’t working is important.

What's an underrated skill that remote workers need to have?

@shayhowe I’d suggest a look at @XWP lots of large scale publishing clients and some really talented WP engineers working there. A lot of great names on this list already!

I’m taking all that I’ve learned in my 9 years of non-tech operations executive work and 5+ years of remote & people ops leadership to begin serving new clients.

TL;DR - My full-time role at XWP is coming to an end on Jan 31. I’m starting my journey as a Fractional People Ops Leader / Head of Remote and I’m open for business! 2023 marks a new start for me.

I may partner for an initiative or two, serve as an advisor, fill an ongoing supportive role to a lean people ops team, or fill a fractional Head of Remote position for an early-stage distributed or hybrid team.
