Investor sentiment has shifted to extreme bearishness: 52.0% of individual investors expressed bearish sentiment over the next 6 months in the AAII survey for the week ending March 19th, the highest since May 2025. The bearish sentiment has risen +23 percentage points since early February, the largest increase since February 2025, amid the trade war. Meanwhile, just 30.4% of retail investors were bullish over the last week, the 3rd-lowest reading since May 2025. Overall, bullish sentiment has declined for 8 consecutive weeks. As a result, the bull-bear spread is down to -21.6 percentage points, the widest gap since Mat 2025, and in-line with the 2022 bear market levels. Is market sentiment becoming too bearish?
