⚖️Happy Public Defense Day! ⚖️ Today, we join @lapubdef & the #LACounty Alternate Public Defender in honoring the constitutional warriors who fight to ensure that "Equal Justice Under Law” is a reality for everyone. 🧵

Yesterday the @LACountyBOS officially recognized today as National Public Defense Day in the County. At a time when the importance of indigent defense is too often overlooked, we must remember that equal justice under law begins with the right to counsel.

Today, on National Public Defender Day, I want to take a moment to honor the extraordinary work each our LA public defender, across every team, do every day. LA public defenders are the living expression of one of the Constitution’s most important promises: every person accused by the government has the right to a lawyer and a fair chance at justice. Yesterday the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors officially recognized today as National Public Defense Day in the County. At a time when the importance of indigent defense is too often overlooked, we must remember that equal justice under law begins with the right to counsel.

On Social Worker Appreciation Day, I want to thank our social workers for the care, expertise, and commitment they bring to our work every day. Their role within our defense teams is vital. Through their assessments, advocacy, and connection to critical resources, they help ensure that our clients are supported not only legally, but as whole people navigating complex challenges. I am continually grateful for the compassion and insight they bring to this work.

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the social workers across our Office for the work they do in serving our clients and the impact they have in uplifting individuals, strengthening families, and supporting communities across Los Angeles.

March is National Social Work Month and today, March 17th is National Social Worker Appreciation Day!

Our Lancaster, Van Nuys, and San Fernando offices were able to get into the Gideon’s Day spirit heading into this week!

🥎PD North Region knocked their first annual Gideon’s Day Softball Tournament out of the park 🥎 Today we celebrated public defenders with a little friendly competition and a couple of curveballs.

Also highlighting: Barbara Allen Babcock was a pioneering advocate and mentor to generations of lawyers. Ketanji Brown Jackson was the first former public defender to serve on the Supreme Court and her career continues to inspire at the highest levels. 🧵3/4
