We love when @lararoket works with our Bath kids, teaching us how to think and observe like real scientists. We truly value our partnership with her and the @uakron Field Station at Bath Nature Preserve.
@GovMikeDeWine I would like to know why university professors and staff do not count as educators. Can you please explain the reasoning behind this decision?
The @uakron Field Station is grateful for recent donors Terrie Sampson, Dr. Nancy Ray, Mike and Karen Edgington, and Dan and Diane Roketenetz for their contributions! A hike is always most enjoyable when you're joined by good friends. 🐝🌿 #ThankfulThursday#Nature#Research
Bath Pond, just one of many wetland areas at Bath Nature Preserve, is a "glacial pothole" & is more than 10,000 years old! UA students have access to it via the @uakron Field Station for research and educational purposes. 🐝🌿 Give: ow.ly/kcYC50uLzPe#AncientHistory
The @uakron Field Station and Bath Nature Preserve are remarkable places for bird watchers! Mike, a volunteer, keeps a monthly list of all the birds spotted on the property. Take a look at the list for June! Give: ow.ly/kcYC50uLzPe 🐝🌿 #BirdsOfOhio#Birding
The marsh located at Bath Nature Preserve had been drained to be used as farmland when it was privately owned. Thankfully, the township has restored the wetland and it is now home to a vast array of plant species and wildlife. 🐝🌿 Give: ow.ly/kcYC50uLzPe
Among the wildlife on the marshlands, are a family of trumpeter swans (in the red circle), which the @OhioDivWildlife has listed as a threatened species in Ohio. This photo was taken on Tuesday 6/25/19 when the swans were a family of three... Give: ow.ly/kcYC50uLzPe 🐝🌿
Last week, the swan family lost one of their babies (cygnets) and this week, a plan was being hatched to introduce an orphaned cygnet being cared for at Lake Metroparks into the family. There was a 50/50 chance that it would be successful. Give: ow.ly/kcYC50uLzPe 🐝🌿
Yesterday, Tammy & Dave (@LakeMetroparks); Tiffany (@clemetzoo); Mike (Ohio Ornithological Society) & Alan (Bath Twp Parks) successfully introduced the orphaned cygnet to the family at BNP. The swan parents accepted the cygnet with open wings - a family of four once more! 🐝🌿
On Bath Pond, an invasive plant has crept into the mix. Sensitive native plants nearby means herbicides are a no-go. But worry not! The UA Field Station has made sure the Purple Loosestrife Beetle is on the job, eating away the invasive plant. 🐝🌿 Give: ow.ly/kcYC50uLzPe
As we bring our week of @uakron Field Station updates to a close, we thank Dr. Lara Roketenetz for her management of the UAFS, & her & volunteer Mike (pictured below) for the wonderful and educational tour they gave our team this week. #GoZips Give: ow.ly/kcYC50uLzPe 🐝🌿
While we are taking this week to focus on the UA Field Station, we want to share our gratitude for Fred Martin's consistent support of @uakron & specifically for the Field Station. Your support has allowed the UAFS programming to go from bud to blossom. 🐝🌿 #ThankfulThursday
More than 4000 K-12 NEO students have explored @uakron's Field Station & nearly 1500 students received in-class instruction from UA biology faculty! Common questions include "Is this the wilderness?" & "Are there crocodiles in these ponds?" 🐝🌿 Give: ow.ly/kcYC50uLzPe
The @uakron Field Station allows student research to take root. From biology, to archaeology & beyond, students trek through data they’ve collected themselves. Below is an experiment-in-the-works, by Biology grad student Brad Small. 🐝🌿 #Research Give: ow.ly/kcYC50uLzPe
This week, we are highlighting the good work taking place at The University of Akron Field Station at Bath Nature Preserve. To be a part of this exciting work, consider making a gift today! igfn.us/f/260n/n#Nature#Research#FieldTrip 🐝🌿
