🧵Shibden Hall, is an architectural "palimpsest,” with layers of history visible from the 1420s to the 1830s. It began as a timber-framed medieval hall house with an open central hall and cross-wings, traces of which survive in its distinctive black-and-white frontage. During



#OnThisDay in 1596, soldier, scholar and French Ambassador Sir Henry Unton died whilst serving on a diplomatic mission at La Fère, France. He had fallen ill in Feb 1596, becoming increasingly weak and feverish, "accompanied by the purples" (mottled, bruised skin). #History
