India's also making an ASML! Their immersion scanner will cost 10% of what ASML charges and has 1.5x the resolution. How? It doesn't even matter; the whole world wants their own ASML. h/t @Eveosian

Wondering what the upper limit is for stacking NAND. At some point there has to be a yield or reliability risk that makes it more economical to just buy 2 instead of stacking more layers into 1.

Canon's 2026 outlook. - i-line down. - KrF for NAND up, 71 units, +25 YoY. - Nanoimprint had multiple units shipped, fab "mass-production" verification underway (Intel IAP + Micron? NIL? just a guess**). Also they clearly indicate here that Inkjet Adaptive Planariaztion (IAP) is just another form of NanoImprint. It's not obvious, but this is indeed the case. The pattern being printed is the wafer topography itself. ** these 2 are the only "major semi" fabs writing litho papers on this.

Oh good. Now the twitter semi discourse can get even stupider. I especially appreciate the 'RIP ASML' comments as if musk dumping metric fucktons of capex to start from scratch won't go the usual tool suppliers. GL

Rumor: Tesla is going to build its own EUV lithography machines because ASML is “too slow.” to supply to the new chip plant. ASML currently produces <100 EUV machines per year. Apparently that’s not fast enough for Elon Musk. The new plan: • 1,000 EUV machines per week starting 2027 • 10,000 per week by 2028 And since HBM memory is also a bottleneck, Tesla will casually build 10 new memory fabs in the next two years producing 5× the rest of the industry combined. Meanwhile, Micron Technology, SK Hynix, and Samsung Electronics are panicking.
