@sanjukta @Lawyer_Saheba “force, deception, compulsion, threat, coercion, allurement, undue influence, bonded labour -these are banned. Why should they not be banned?” So they’re legal otherwise? You could’ve lived without offering your unsolicited 2 cents on something you have no lived experience on

Please talk like a lawyer. On what ground you assume I have not read the amendments? It's those who have not read will fall for the fear mongering. Because if you simply read, it is a no-brainer that force, deception, compulsion, threat, coercion, allurement, undue influence, bonded labour - these are banned. Why should they not be banned? You said people who help in running away, will become criminal? How? What is this help that can appear like force deception etc.? Please explain in a civil manner. What lived experience, explain. If the truth is that some amount of force and coercion exist but it is passed off as tradition or culture, should such culture exist? That's another debate.

This is so vague and convoluted. First, the law clearly bans such so called medical treatments or corrective rape, so trans people will not have to run away from home anymore. If your family is violent, call the cops. Many brave women have fought their way out of violent families using police and law's help. Second, how will anybody impose charges of coercing or alluring out of the blue? What are these "helps" that can be so easily interpreted as coerce or allure? If the person is an adult, and ran away from home and I gave them shelter, can that be turned into coercion? Never heard of more blatant fear mongering of preventive laws. Of course there will be some misuse all laws are but these are preventive measures that are very important because of course there are such gangs who do indeed allure and coerce. Kidnapping and abduction, forced surgery, drug therapy to feed the begging and trafficking networks also absolutely do happen. Those need to be stopped.

"You may now be arrested in India for helping a transgender person..." Raghavi Shukla, first openly transgender lawyer to have argued in the Supreme Court, explains how the new Act can be weaponised. "There are friends of mine who have been forced into conversion therapies, shock treatment, corrective rapes. When people like these run away from homes, and if I or any NGO or organisation try to help them, these families can weaponise the new law against us saying we are 'alluring' or 'coercing' them to become a trans person," Shukla explained. #India: We regret fast passage of Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, without adequate stakeholder consultation. The amendments risk setting back hard-won rights of transgender people, replacing self-identification with mandatory medical verification processes. India has been a pioneer for rights of transgender & gender-diverse people. This Bill will have far-reaching impacts on right to privacy & risk marginalisation of transgender people.

Biju Babu’s life was a testament to courage, sacrifice, vision, and uncompromising patriotism. He was not merely a towering leader of Odisha, but one of the rare nation-builders whose life and work left an indelible mark on India’s political and strategic history. From his role in the freedom movement, to his daring aviation missions in service of the nation, to his contribution in critical moments of India’s early post-Independence history, Biju Babu consistently stood where courage, conviction, and national duty demanded the most. He was among those exceptional Indians whose service extended beyond public office and became part of the larger story of the nation itself. To reduce his extraordinary contribution to India and Odisha into loose and sensational political remarks is both unfair and deeply disrespectful. One may debate history, governments, or decisions taken in complex and difficult times — but no one has the right to question Biju Babu’s nationalist spirit, his integrity, or his unwavering commitment to India. He stood for Odisha with pride and for India with courage. His life was defined by conviction, action, and service — never by hesitation, and never by self-interest. For the people of Odisha, Biju Babu represents pride, legacy, identity, and honour. His contribution deserves seriousness. His legacy deserves respect. And Biju Babu shall always be remembered as one of India’s staunchest nationalists and one of Odisha’s proudest sons.

Social Justice Minister is saying that transgender persons will experience a boost in self confidence, pride and dignity if they are forced to expose their bodies to a medical board for a physical scrutiny. Makes sense why he skipped NCTP meeting. He knew he’d likely get slammed.

Please do NOT make an independent decision to challenge the bill in the Supreme Court! We need a collective front! A failure in SC will be final. Collectivise at the regional level first, challenge it in all the HCs, learn their tactics, then approach SC with all of us together!
