Language is important. This dialogue triggered memories of how I felt when I had a close family member in ICU. We are all the same, so we have to be mindful of not othering people even if not the intention at all :)

I don't always get this right :) I also try and receive things from a perspective of positive intent from most people and then question the impact they have on me from that place.

@rjwrm @dunkleybent 6,500ish a year. I don’t know any statistics yet on how many people know their midwife at delivery. But because we rotate around the unit, we often see women in triage and later meet again in labour etc!

#continuityofcarer evidence shows the benefits, women want it, most midwives enjoy it, but less than 30% of women receive it.

@rjwrm @dunkleybent Full time staff- one 11.5 hour shift in hospital, the rest in community- Clinic, visits etc. In hospital, they go wherever the help is needed. But if one of their caseload is labouring, another midwife would swap so she could care for that woman. #BetterBirths #ContinuityOfCarer
