It’s #BannedBooksWeek. #Blended has been challenged in some schools, but it’s about things many kids face — divorce, identity, family, and figuring out who you are in a world that doesn’t always make it easy. Keep reading. Keep talking. Stories connect us. 💕

Slavery was bad.
Removing, banning, and destroying books that say otherwise doesn't change that.
Learning and understanding that slavery was bad does NOT make you "woke"
It makes you a good person.

When Novels Mattered nytimes.com/2025/07/10/opi… Novels can capture the zeitgeist of an era with a richness that screens and visual media can’t match. I would put my money on literature’s comeback, and that will be a great blow to the forces of dehumanization all around us.

@LASchools Librarian is a certified or certificated teacher-Jenny Hertz-Newman. Classified staff is a Library Tech-Claudia Magana.

This Librarian Day, we’re celebrating two amazing @LASchools librarians—Claudia Magaña from Farmdale Elementary School and Jenny Hertz-Newman from El Sereno Middle School—who are transforming their libraries into safe, welcoming hubs of curiosity, creativity, and connection.
The best moments? When a student asks for more time with a book because they’re hooked. When the room falls silent as everyone—students, teachers, and librarians alike—gets lost in a story. When kids proudly tell their grown-ups, “This is my library.”
Claudia and Jenny know that a great library is more than books—it’s a place where students grow, discover agency, and feel at home. #LibrarianDay #SchoolLibraries #LoveOfReading

We’re bookmarking someone truly special at Overland Elementary—Mrs. Megan Griffith! As a dedicated Library Technician, Mrs. Griffith brings stories to life and sparks curiosity every day. From introducing students to inspiring figures like Wilma Rudolph and Gertrude Ederle, to showing them that their favorite movie started as a book—she makes reading a real adventure.
Whether it’s students racing to shelve books, eagerly diving into a new series, or finding a cozy space to read during lunch—Mrs. Griffith has turned the library into a warm, welcoming hub. Her passion for literacy and community shines in every story shared and every smile sparked.
Thank you, Mrs. Griffith, for helping our students write their own stories—one book at a time!
