After ~4 yrs of returning back from US, yesterday we started with our first international trip to UK. We will do some sightseeing in London, Cambridge, Bristol, Edinburgh, and Birmingham. If you are around these places, drop a message, and we can plan to meet. Cheers!

Had a lovely day at @unibirmingham yesterday to celebrate the 80th of my PhD supervisor Jeff Cole & caught up with Jane Grove and Lesley Griffiths who together helped me become a vaguely competent bench scientist. Jeff still going strong with @MicrobioSoc etc.

While it was different to how I expected, I officially graduated today. I would therefore like to thank my supervisors @GavinHThomas and Christoph Baumann, alongside the Thomas Lab. It was a fantastic four years and I'm really going to miss York.

I Am it (of the Pronoun People) Elmo hate account
This is my last OOO mail to my team and my manager. #selfcare day off. I want each and every one of my team members to be able to take a day off for nothing more urgent than self-care. Let's normalize self-care. Let's stop using "personal work" as a substitute for rest/self-care.

@asuph Climate change and the effects of this pandemic (social, economic, psychological) are my everyday anxieties. There is no way of quietening them down. Hope is a questionable word in my dictionary now.

And as we stare down the barrel of a gun with unknown power - the climate change - I suspect the pandemic may not be the last season of our collective grief. So can we make this season a time to learn? A time to step back, and see the larger picture? 7/

Will the pandemic change the way we live? Will it finally end the tyranny of excellence, the obsession with the optimal, the constant pursuit of the perfect? Will it make us take a step back and rethink? 1/

How will we recover from this?
Veena Srinivasan@veenas_water

What the #Covid19 numbers don't reveal is the millions who have emptied their life savings -- and not just the poor, even the middle class -- and now have to start all over. Then there are those who emptied their bank accounts and died leaving their families in debt.

A lot of COVID deaths in India in young people who should be doing well & recovering. I am making a plea to doctors in India to cut down the use of STEROIDS. Please. Steroids are only useful after the patient is hypoxic. Harmful if given early, or given for too long

I have a PhD and I still don't know whether "bimonthly" means "twice a month" or "once every two months".

This is the reason why nobody should do science in India!!! This is also the reason why people don't want to come back to India! It is time to rectify things! Please show some compassion at least during the ranging pandemic.

The plight of young researchers in this country is beyond sad.. especially considering the times we are living in. PhD student in the lab sent this email to CSIR, and the sad thing is he may never receive even a cursory reply. Please amplify his voice.. 1/4

@DipshikhaGhosh It is heartbreaking! Thank you for giving them the chance to say goodbye! It means so much! My father died 10 years ago and I didn't get the chance to say goodbye. The nurses told us later that he was asking for me, my mother and brother in his last moments.

Today, towards the end of my shift, I video called the relatives of a patient who is not going to make it. We usually do that in my hospital if it’s something they want. This patient’s son asked for a few minutes of my time. He then sang a song for his dying mother.
