I believe Khamenei when he said that he considers that cursing Ayesha (RA) is wrong. I have met many shi’ah scholars who have held this position. It’s not a taqiyyah thing. There are some 12er shi’ah scholars who hold cursing of the wives and the first 3 khulafa a reprehensible act (albeit not kufr). However, I have not met a single Shi’ah scholar who doesn’t badmouth Muaweyah. That’s where they all converge.
