@laynescards @lugialover307 This guys points are pretty spot on and fair. Maximize the amount you’re getting = Local Facebook sale to a collector. You also have to realize eBay zaps 13% off the bat for any sale. That leaves you with 87%. I sold/traded a couple big pieces of stuff at a show for 90%.

If one more card flipper explains to me that MY prices need to be 80% of comps so THEY can profit I'm going to lose my mind. If your business model requires other people to take a loss for you it's not really that good now is it?

@SwamileeSports Nah it was them making me an offer and me saying “no sorry that’s way too low for me on this. It’s Ohtani” and then coming back explaining “but I need to make a profit”

In my opinion, it depends on how that person asks for the deal. If they say, I'll give you 80% because I need to make money...screw them. But if they say, "hey, I'm interested in a stack of your cards. I'm a re-seller and I'm looking to pay 80%. Does that interest you?" No issue with that at all.

@laynescards I agree with the 80% if you are selling to a card store or a vendor at a show, basically if I am trying to offload something. If you are just a regular dude trying to buy for your collection, GTFO with that 80% stuff. I don’t care about your profits if you’re coming to me to buy.

@lugialover307 Perhaps do not assume lol because no I did not. I listed Ohtani cards on Facebook and that was the context for this.

@laynescards I’m assuming you came to a card show / shop, which would be businesses. If you’re selling it yourself that makes complete sense! But if you come into a business expecting them to pay full price, that wouldn’t make sense. An example is like FB MKRT, people paying 80% there is dumb

@Fat_Jeffs_Cards For sure but if a guy comes TO ME demanding I give him 80% (on Ohtani cards at that) I feel like I’m allowed to say that’s not my business. I have no plans to sell to him.

@laynescards Then don’t sell to them. Card flippers are there if you want to move cards quickly and don’t want to deal with the hassle of piecing stuff out to sell. It is not easy getting 100% of comps for your cards and usually takes a lot of time. No one is forcing you to sell anything

@ChristianDY0R And when you factor in how much they would charge the buyer in tax and shipping, not quite that big actually

@laynescards Look up the fees that eBay takes off the rip. Last sold is a lot lower of a take home for the seller.

@CardsMax Yeah. Worth noting in this particular instance that set me off it was a stack of Ohtani cards at that. AND I offered him 90% instead. And he got spicy about how he “needs 80 to profit”

@laynescards Cause you can sell it yourself on ebay. So they try to comp your card for 80 saying after ebay fees and shipping cost that how much it would be if you sell it on ebay. But turns around and sells it at 110% 🤣

@_King_Beast_ @D2218996 Eh for the most part the people asking this still want you to cover shipping and then PayPal goods and services fees so very rarely is that true in my experience.

@D2218996 @laynescards They don’t need to. But doing it directly with them saves the seller from fees, shipping, and other shit. So it’s a win win situation

@BuckCityAdam Do what work? I ship the card I comp the card I photograph it and list it and they come to me and ask me sell it to them for 20% less. Now if I send a stack of cards to consignment or bring them to a show because I don’t feel like doing that, cool. But otherwise? No.

@InsaneWaya Right but it’s expecting other sellers and collectors to be your wholesalers and getting upset when they aren’t willing to because “I need to profit” that gets me.

@laynescards But every business works like this... Walmart buys a can of beans at 80 cents and sells it to you and everyone else at volume for $1. Amy type of business has margins they need to meet and the amount of risk involved in collectables requires higher percentages.

@lugialover307 My take is why should you get to sell it for $100 but not me? Pay $100 for the card or don’t. But don’t come to me with “but I can’t make money if I don’t pay you $80 for it.” I didn’t ask to run your business for you.

@laynescards I’m confused by your take. Hypothetically, if your card is worth 100$, and I pay 100$, I do not make any money. Im sure that’s what’s been repeated but it used to be a lot worse when the hobby was smaller! Now for bigger transactions people pay higher.

@enoadonu Yeah I’d do $125 on that if you’re open to sending Venmo or friends and family. If you’d like goods and services I’d ask for a little extra for the fees. That said I just hopped in the car to get on a plane so I can’t send until next week. Up to you if you want to anyway.

@TurdBurgle75267 PayPal fees and shipping still happen whether it’s eBay or not. I don’t mind coming under eBay comps. I mind someone telling me I need to sell them cards cheaper so they can turn around and sell them to someone else for profit.

@laynescards If comps are from Online sales. Individuals are not Ebay. They dont pay Ebay fees, PayPal fees, tax, shipping, time spent packaging and shipping item. 80 percent is actually reasonable.

@laynescards @CardPurchaser Comps in general are dumb. How does price go up if everyone is buying at 80%? Then by definition that number is comp and all sales are downward pressure on price. Also if there are less than 5 sales in last 90 days the comps are useless which is most cards.
