The Rupee is the only major currency down against a weak Dollar. Everyone is calling it a crisis but I think this is a masterclass in Central Banking (by RBI). The RBI has decoupled the currency from the news cycle to focus on the Real Effective Exchange Rate (REER). Let me explain :- When foreign money floods into India (FII inflows), the natural reaction is for the Rupee to spike. RBI actively intervenes to absorb these dollars to prevent the Rupee from becoming overvalued,which would crush Indian exporters (IT/Pharma/ Textiles). They are sacrificing short-term appreciation for long-term trade balance. Reported inflation is lower, yes. But developing economies have higher inflation than developed ones over decades. To keep Indian goods competitive, the currency must depreciate by the differential (approx 2-3% annually). If the Rupee stayed flat while inflation was 4%, Indian goods would become 4% more expensive globally every year. The depreciation offsets this. By buying dollars now, the RBI is building a buffer for when the US Fed eventually tightens (another 2-3 years maybe) This liquidity prevents the flash crashes we see in other EMs. They are actually managing volatility, not the price. Volatility kills CAPEX. Stability invites it. Implications for my HNI friends :- 1. Do not hoard INR Cash: It will lose value against hard assets. 2. Hedge via US Assets: Since INR depreciation is a structural requirement, holding 20% of your portfolio in USD assets (US Tech/S&P 500/ other global ETFs/ADRs in USD) provides a natural hedge. 3. Long India : The weak currency acts as a stimulus for domestic manufacturing. Let’s not judge the economy by the spot price of the currency. Judge it by the size of Reserves and the stability of yields. India is choosing the latter. Allocate accordingly!

Hot take: iPhone 17 doesn't deserve all the accolades its getting. The only meaningful upgrade is a 120Hz refresh rate display. But, that's the bare minimum required to compete with the Android counterparts. It is a good upgrade, yes. But, in smartphone crazy markets like China and India...it was a non-negotiable upgrade. P.S.Don't @ me with other tiny upgrades over the iPhone 16.
