#OTD: In ’66, Mexican American leaders met with #LBJ at the #WhiteHouse to discuss their concerns—first meeting of its kind in U.S. history. LBJ’s daily diary: “[LBJ] hoped that these discussions would bring about better understanding of the Mexican descendants born in the U.S.”

Today, his legacy remains part of @txst—from campus landmarks to the iconic statue in the Quad, where students touch his hand for luck and celebrate their graduation by featuring the distinguished alumnus in their photos.

While on campus, he led the debate team, edited the student newspaper, and began building the skills that would shape his future in public service.

Congratulations to the @txst Class of 2026! 🎓 Long before becoming president, Lyndon B. Johnson was a student at what was then Southwest Texas State Teachers College, graduating in 1930.
