Today HF 759 had its first hearing in Education Policy! It moves onto Ed Finance next so we can invest in CS programs across Minnesota by funding 3 things: a working group to streamline CS courses; teacher training, and expansion of more CS courses. Thanks to all our testifiers!

The most frustrating part? The messaging we’re getting is that the only students who should be accessing our office hour time are those who are quarantining - not the students who choose to stay home to protect their health or the health of their families.

Parents are keeping students home from school to prevent them from getting sick, students are home on quarantine, but sure, we’re staying in person to “prevent learning loss.” At least if we were teaching virtually all students could have access to live instruction.

Overall, that 1 point wouldn't really do much in a category of tests with many more points but I'm just going to switch it to "ungraded" now that there is an actual test there and it's purpose has been fulfilled 😀 (3/3)

My favorite grading hack so far this year was to give every student a guaranteed 1/1 in the summative category in the first week of school. I have my gradebook set up so that only 10% is for formative assessment but it calculates as 100% until there is a summative entered (1/3)

@cossettej This has been my practice at MMW- I love it!! The only thing I’ve felt is missing is the opportunity to provide feedback about some of the “responsibility” type habits. We are going to work on that this year- it will not impact grades.

I'm sure I'm still missing things and I know these procedures won't be universally popular. Ok teacher twitter, What are the biggest issues you foresee? How could these be updated to better avoid challenges with students and staff and avoid unnecessary headaches along the way?

After reading "Grading for Equity" this summer, I have lots of thoughts and a desire to enact some procedures that eliminate the use of the zero in the gradebook. Here's what I'm thinking. Please poke holes and challenge me on this. 😏

Anybody have experience with @CodeHS + @Schoology integration? Worth it to explore?
