I really didn’t realize how much genital anatomy would be involved in obtaining my PhD in moral psychology. I expected some, of course. Just not this much

@AllSidesNow As someone who is usually here for a “both-sides” take, this is ridiculous… Mamdani’s is obviously nothing close to a nazi salute..? Like maybe there was too much uncharitable interpretation of Elon’s gesture but this is such a reach by the right. Surprised you guys mentioned it

Some say context renders the two moments incomparable, since Musk was actively promoting the right-wing AfD party on social media around the time of his gesture. Others argue the media interpreted Mamdani's gesture much more favorably than they did Musk's. What do you think?

When Elon Musk made a hand gesture last year, many outlets alleged it looked like a Nazi salute. When Zohran Mamdani made a similar gesture, few said anything at all. How should audiences interpret that gap in coverage? (Video from @EricLDaugh) 🧵/

The irony gods, the writers of 2025, divine purpose, call it what you want, but someone up there clearly thought it would be hilarious to create a movement based on decoding pizza boxes for hidden clues and then present them this evidence board

Anyway, a lot more in this paper, but a main takeaway: Both parties bend democratic principles when it helps their side. But partisan asymmetries beyond that emerge around politicized issues like mail-in voting—not out of more stable differences in democratic values.

Really excited to share my first solo-authored article, out now in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin! I test when and why Democrats and Republicans differ in their tolerance for undemocratic actions. 🧵

@jbarro I could see doing it because some of the identities in the acronym are more stigmatized than others so it allows for solidarity or identification with sexual minorities while maintaining a bit more anonymity

We use an acronym because the community contains many people of various designations. But as an individual, you can just call yourself "a lesbian." Who talks like this? newyorker.com/news/q-and-a/w…

Spencer Cox: "Our nation is broken. We had political assassinations recently in Minnesota. We had an attempted assassination on the governor of Pennsylvania. And we had an attempted assassination on a presidential candidate and former president of the United States and now current president. Nothing I say can unite us as a country. Nothing I can say right now can fix what is broken. Nothing I can say can bring back Charlie Kirk."

Democrats and Republicans don't actually disagree much about the role of genetics (with the notable exception of gender). But Republicans are more likely to attribute many things to choice relative to Democrats, who are relatively more likely to credit people's environment:
