I also contrast the Ecuadorian speeches with speeches given by Fidel Castro, whose ideology has had great influence in Ecuador and Latin America. #DHSIConf#DHSI21
My presentation is an exploratory analysis to identify the common topics in Ecuadorian Presidential speeches from thirteen years (2007 - 2021) by drawing inferences over different periods of time using topic modeling. #DHSIConf#DHSI21
The DH project manager’s research is to design, iterate, implement & modify a model of scholarly exchange that is responsive to the project team. This makes visible the value of the scholarly exchange *process* & reveals it as an essential part of scholarship 5/5 #dhpm20#DSHI20
@lindseyseatter I was expecting to see a larger number of clusters within the topics -and maybe some outliers. All three presidents have very similar ideologies. #VirtualDHSI#DHSI20
@ldmm You showcase two clusters that prominently form out of your topic modelling/python analysis. Would you have hypothesized that these themes would come forward in the way they did given your knowledge of these presidents and their ideologies? #DHSI20#VirtualDHSI
@KatieSchaag@ETCLatUVic Thanks! For now I am just focusing on content, but I do not discard looking at the structure of the speeches as a possibility for future work. #VirtualDHSI#DHSI20
@ldmm@ETCLatUVic Really interesting research on political discourse, Luis! Are you also analyzing any formal/structural elements of speeches, or is it only content-based? #VirtualDHSI#DHSI20
My results show that the documents in the collection clearly cluster in two groups. For me this is just a starting point to continue the analysis. #VirtualDHSI#DHSI20
@LadyKaitlyn Absolutely! The difficult aspect is finding the speeches. Most governments take them down after some time. Between political adversaries they might show different trends, but it is hard to know for sure. #VirtualDHSI#DHSI20
@ETCLatUVic I need to analyze the details for each topic. There was also a lot of overlap between terms. So there a lots of avenues to explore! #VirtualDHSI#DHSI20
In my presentation, I analyzed speeches from presidents of Cuba and Ecuador. My research questions is: Do they share common topics? #VirtualDHSI#DHSI20
@ldmm enjoyed your presentation at #DH2018 - caught the one last year, was concerned by treatment of redirects, neat to see refined approach. Wonder about working with DH centers to get their project lifespan data.
