The Fan-Out Effect: What Happens Between a Query and a Citation - From a research developed by @Kevin_Indig & @AirOpsHQ analyzing 16,851 queries and +353K pages across ChatGPT's full retrieval pipeline: * Retrieval rank is the #1 signal. A page at position 1 in ChatGPT's retrieval results has a 58% citation rate vs. 14% at position 10 — a 4x gap that no amount of content quality alone won't close. To me, this is some of the biggest news in AI search right now that I'm not sure enough people are talking about. (Props to @5eg at @resoneo for pulling & visualizing this data) ChatGPT 5.3 was launched on March 3, and the model is now linking out to sites a lot less than before. So your tiny sliver of traffic from ChatGPT is about to get tinier. Yes - cue the "it's not all about citations, it's about brand mentions" comments. This is true, but this data point is still worth noting for traffic-obsessed CMOs. Brands can be recommended in ChatGPT but not have much to show for it in terms of referral traffic, now more than ever. Keep an eye on that demand for your brand name (well, assuming Google can get its act together with tracking impressions 🫠)

ChatGPT voice mode should be available on Apple CarPlay
