@CubicleApril Do you mean like growing along the path they're on (e.g. SWE I --> Distinguished Engineer) or developing into a different role that some people might think of as bigger but I would argue is different (e.g. eng manager)?

does your employer have a good path for engineers who do solid work in their role but who have no interest in growing or developing into a bigger one?

@LeaKissner @mergesort You could definitely do that but I was tiptoeing around any solutions that centralize the federated nature of it, since it seems like it would never sell.

Sorry, one last tweet before I go. This is the worst intentional user experience of all time. Someone links you to their profile, you click follow, and then Mastodon tells you to open your server, copy and paste the link into a search box, and then click follow there.

This might not be worth it, but it would be possible to run a central service that is literally just there to hold a cookie that says which instance you're on -- that dude could redirect to your home instance in the right place for you to click a follow. Low-trust but not 0

@mergesort yes it’s super bad. there are some webextensions that can, in theory, fix this. might also be possible with a registered handler. but gonna be real hard otherwise thanks to the SOP.
