Hooray! 'Falling Leaves' is the runner up in the Maxy Awards 'Mystery and Crime' category. I hope this win raises the profile of the entire four-volume Inspector Inoue mystery series.

Why Do Japanese People Sit Like This? The Story of Seiza by Japanese History medium.com/japonica-publi… I take two yoga classes each week with 'seiza' in each. Sometimes I give up and sit cross-legged. This posture is challenging for Westerners unused to this way of sitting.

The Comfort of Watching by @satoka_sotome medium.com/japonica-publi… In teaching at a Japanese university full-time for 36 years (now retired) I was surprised at how politically and emotionally disengaged my students were, how disinclined for adventures, how self-deprecating.

My sixth crime fiction novel -- and the fourth and final in the Inspector Inoue series -- is published today. 'Falling Leaves' focuses on the Japanese abduction issue. In the late seventies and early eighties North Korean agents kidnapped Japanese to teach spies Japanese.

The healthy eating habits Britain should learn from Japan telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness… I love Japan! My three boys went through the school system and often asked me (in primary school) why I didn't serve meals as delicious as the healthy ones they got at school.
