March is the month of celebration events for 'Plus One Learning Cycles' for schools who started the programme in Aug/Sept. I'm in @BrockingtonColl today for their sharing of impact from the programme. Teachers engaged in deep dialogue, sharing their work with their peers. 👏👏👏

A great session yesterday with the @DGSMathsDept looking at the importance and potential impact of Embedding Formative Assessment with @dylanwiliam. TLCs are key to changing habitual practice and leaders need to consider what to stop doing to make time for something better.

Great to spend time learning alongside leaders today. We’ve been reflecting on our ‘Community First’ work with the Reach Foundation, exploring how we deepen thinking, our leadership framework, EYFS transition and our digital strategy. We are stronger when we hike in teams.

@Janroweljmu @RPUffendell @DanielHugill To paraphrase, he said he was going to talk about the 'why', not the 'how'. Yet most of the concerns that I get from school leaders I work with is about all the 'how' and the consistency of the process...

It boils down to beliefs about motivating change. Do you have to give something someone does a negative label to motivate their improvement? Or can you motivate change by saying someone is doing a decent job, but they could be even better if ...... ?

Schools that were good had reports that EXPLICITLY listed things the school needed to improve not, as HMCI suggests, that good schools had nothing needing improvement.

This from HMCI's speech to ASCL today. We can debate whether the line for 'good' was drawn at the right place and whether too many schools were graded 'good' BUT HMCI is suggesting something that is not true in this part of his speech.

As a leader, I have always felt the latter. Call it out where it is unacceptable but, where someone is doing a decent job, share with them where you think they can improve and why it is important.
