Introducing my first thread: America’s Forgotten HBCUs. I initially did this one on my main page back in April 2021, but a LOT of people requested this one so I wanted to redo it on this page!

I conceived this page in 2020, finally made it 2023, took it serious in 2025, and in less than a year I gained almost 3k on Tiktok ALONE. My videos have been seen by people in 15 countries across every continent except Antarctica. That’s God right there.

Fun fact: Did you know Stevie Wonder’s version of the “Happy Birthday” song was released in 1980 to both 1) help keep King’s legacy alive and 2) pressure the government to create a federal holiday in King’s honor, which became reality under Reagan in 1986. #learnmowithjoe #mlk

The Bogalusa chapter gained national attention during the summer of 1965 in its violent struggles with the Ku Klux Klan.

The Deacons for Defense and Justice was a Black American self-defense group founded in Louisiana in Nov. 1964. It was intended to protect civil rights activists and their families, threatened both by white vigilantes and discriminatory treatment by police under Jim Crow laws.

#OnThisDay In History: 1881 - Morris Brown College was founded. 1911 - Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is founded as Kappa Alpha Nu at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. 1943 - Famed Black scientist Dr. George Washington Carver dies at the age of 78 in Tuskegee, AL.

The Atlanta Inquirer launched in 1960 to give Black Atlantans truthful coverage during the Civil Rights Movement. Created by AUC students and local leaders, it amplified protest, challenged segregation, and reshaped the city’s media landscape.

Doris “Dorie” Miller showed unmatched courage at Pearl Harbor. A Navy cook who saved lives and fought back during the attack with no weapons training. His heroism helped shift military segregation and earned him the Navy Cross. #BlackHistory #DorisMiller #PearlHarbor #WWII

Ninety years ago, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune built the National Council of Negro Women to unite Black women’s clubs, strengthen our communities, and fight for justice on a national scale. Today we honor the work that shaped education, civil rights, and global Black activism. #NCNW

#FredHampton organized powerfully at 21 through community care, political education, and the Rainbow Coalition. Chicago police and the FBI raided his home on December 4, 1969 and killed him while he slept. His legacy continues to shape liberation work today. #BlackPantherParty
