The other was engaged/intercepted by a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer nearby, which fired an SM-3 interceptor at it and destroyed it. UK forces played no part in the defence of Diego Garcia. Nor do they have the capability to do so. Mr Reed says UK won’t be dragged into the US’s War. Fair enough. But he’s happy for the US to defend what is a British base — and didn’t even thank them for it.
