Each a reminder as to why violence against women and girls must be tackled as the national emergency it is. They came from every background, every walk of life. Their names are a stark reminder that, for too long, violence against women and girls has been treated as a fact of life - but we will not accept this. Our Violence Against Women and Girls strategy, launched in December, is only the beginning. We are committed to acting faster and doing whatever it takes to protect more women and girls from harm.

The charity Prostate Cancer UK is calling for sanitary bins to be made mandatory in men’s toilets, saying men left incontinent after treatment need to feel more confident wearing sanitary pads. Joe Appiah says bins would have made him feel more comfortable to leave the house when he experienced incontinence after his prostate cancer diagnosis.

This is a landmark case which shows that domestic abusers can be held accountable when their victims take their own lives. Recognising these cases as crimes is so important and would sadly significantly increase the number of women killed by men each year.

College of Paramedics: there is a “serious graduate employment crisis” - up to 40% of new graduates unable to find a job in England. The College said figures were “shocking”.  This comes after govt announced plans for trusts to employ more newly qualified nurses and midwives.
