Legion 44 will now be posting on X. Innovators are emerging from around the world to grab carbon dioxide from the air and put it in deep carbon storage, or, turn it into useful materials. Legion 44 is a film that tracks the emergence of this new industry. Here is our teaser, we are going to wide release in early 2025. @maxzeller_ @dpaessler @marktluszcz @allonbloch @albertwenger @susandanziger @cellaminerals @Climeworks @OctaviaCarbon @LithosCarbon @planetary_tech @silicate_carbon @SeafieldsSL @MaxPisciotta @carbon_180 @4401earth @heirloomcarbon @BrillPlanet @carbon_drawdown For more info: legion44.world #cdr #innovation #visionary #carbon

This is Marcel Huber, CEO & Founder of Syncraft. Marcel is building “reverse power plants” wherein they take waste wood and pyrolyze it…with the outputs being energy and biochar. So other than burning coal, you are creating biochar that has a myriad benefits for agriculture and materials science.

This is Shashank Samala, Co-Founder & CEO of @heirloomcarbon . Heirloom is scaling very fast through continuous innovation…as he says “when you figure out how to give superpowers to limestone, all you need to do is get more limestone, build more trays, stack more trays vertically, and make those stacks taller.” Their aim is to capture 1 billion tons of CO2 from the atmosphere by 2035 and by the looks of it, they will get there. For more exciting innovations, you can watch Legion 44 ... for more info: @legion44earth

Dr. Will Burt, of Planetary Technologies, is the subject of our next “This is …” series of social posts on the cast of Legion 44. Will discusses Planetary’s CDR pathway — Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE). The pathway name itself speaks to the powerful additional impacts that CDR can have — in this case, helping to de-acidify the oceans. Planetary’s process removes CO2 from the atmosphere as well as brings the ocean, in the part of their world anyway, back into balance. For more innovations, you can watch Legion 44 currently available here: legion44.world and while doing so, you can also remove CO2. It’s our “watch + remove” innovation! Legion 44 will soon be out on major platforms end of April.

Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) is fast becoming mainstream in the CDR industry. New standards and MRV are emerging as well as high-quality certification. This is Mary Yap, Co-Founder & CEO of Lithos Carbon, a fast-growing ERW company. Lithos is turning farms across the world into carbon removal centers. For more on all of this, watch Legion 44. CDR innovation seems like it has, rather spontaneously, emerged from all around the world. For those not in CDR at all, it is a revelation. Today we highlight a project in Oman, 44.01, with Alaa Al-Amri, a geologist at the company. Working with nature, in this case the rocky Hajar Mountains, 44.01 is mineralizing CO2 in a safe and effective way. Learn more at legion44.world Watch, engage + remove CO2!

Advancing CDR requires good data. In the area of Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW), look no further than Dirk Paessler’s Carbon Drawdown Initiative wherein Dirk and Ralf Steffens work to measure how fast CO2 is removed under different soil conditions. With the help of their robot army of flux meters, they are creating a database with the data that is needed. Enjoy this snippet or, perhaps watch Legion 44 + remove some carbon while you are at it. legion44.world

Carbon dioxide removal and utilization is a critical yet nascent part of a future that works. Hannes Junginger, CEO & Co-Founder of @carbonfuture_ , is creating the "digital quality layer" so that CDR has a trust layer. You can watch the whole film + remove CO2 at legion44.world You can also share with friends and colleagues. ✨

As we head into the New Year, we offer up a Legion 44 cast snippet featuring an early innovator in the CDR space, Jan Wurzbacher, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Climeworks, the global leader in carbon removal. Climeworks develops, builds, and operates direct air capture plants to remove CO2 from the air on a gigaton scale by 2050. If you want to share the full feature film on CDR, Legion 44, & remove carbon, consider paying it forward here: legion44.world/giftlegion44 In only 10 days, our community has removed over 1000 tons of carbon. Kg by kg let's keep it going, this is just the beginning!

As carbon dioxide continues to increase in our atmosphere, people fall into one of two camps: Those who watch things fall apart, and those who rise up to meet the challenge. @legion44earth is a new film highlighting the latter. 44 is the molar mass of CO₂. With this film, director @LeilaConners wanted to recruit people for the new legion that will solve the CO₂ problem. All around the world, people are finding new ways to combat climate change. Legion 44 showcases the work of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) as an emerging industry. Conners is a champion for optimistic people who believe we can do something to counteract the damage done. The protagonists of the movie are from scientific teams and startup companies around the world, experimenting with new methods to capture the carbon from the atmosphere and store it in a permanent way - which counteracts global warming. It is important to understand that all this work will only make sense when we have reduced our emissions by 90%. This is crucially important. But reductions will become harder and harder for the remaining emissions in the future, and then we will need carbon dioxide removal to finish the job and to reach net zero. This new industry will only be able to work at the necessary scale in 2050, when we start to develop the technologies now and then scale up. This film shines a light on the people already on this journey. And it is an inspiring sight! The world is going to be saved by nerds working with rocks, high-tech machinery, lab equipment, and algae. When we all pitch in, the necessary change is possible! If you are looking for a career with purpose, please watch the movie! To give the gift of Legion 44, visit the link in comments.

Legion 44 Cast This is Duncan Kariuki, Duncan leads @OctaviaCarbon 's engineering design and project development efforts, focusing on the design of their DAC modules and the engineering of their DAC plants. His idea for building DAC as a solution to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere emerged while he was still in university, with the goal of supporting Kenyan farmers. He has a background in mechanical engineering and is driven by a passion to use his expertise to tackle help preserve the ability for Kenyan farmers to continue to grow crops. #cdr #innovators #carbonremoval #DAC

Today we announced Heirloom's $150M Series B funding round! This investment, co-led by @wearefpc and @lowercarbon, brings together a coalition of global industrial leaders including @JAL_Official_jp, @Mitsubishi_ID, Mitsui & Co., and @Siemens Financial Services. Their participation reiterates our position as one of the leading developers of low-cost DAC technology. Why are industrial leaders backing Heirloom? Simple: we're showing a clear path to the lowest-cost DAC solution. Our approach combines abundant limestone (at $10-50/ton), smart automation (collecting 100M+ data points monthly), and modular design that enables manufacturing-style scale. Thank you to our investors, partners, and the incredible Heirloom team for making this possible. More here: heirloomcarbon.com/news/heirloom-…
