 This milestone follows work by DIGNITY, Amnesty International Denmark, and the Institute for Human Rights. My team members at Amnesty, Elise Bangert, in the War Crimes Committee and Lisa Blinkenberg worked hard for this. DIGNITY played a vital role w input for this law.

Today, Danish Parliament adopted a new Penal Code chapter criminalizing #torture, #warcrimes, and #crimesagainsthumanity (100 for, 9 against). Bill L58 ratifies key amendments to the #ICC Statute, incl. the crimes of aggression, #genocide, and starvation as a method of #warfare.

Terrible news and a direct result of Italian government policy, leaving a massive gap in the civilian fleet saving lives in the Central Mediterranean.

@JFCrisp @S_DeGooyer Yes, but this was to be returns in collaboration with the Assad regime. Showing that who was in power wasn’t the priority for member states. The Danish Refugee Appeals Board have paused all Syrian cases today
