not universal but striking how often grad students from working class backgrounds r like “teaching? I love teaching! It’s the whole job right” vs how often others are like “oh, teaching is okay, I wish I could teach my research specialty, these freshmen aren’t rigorous thinkers”

what the past couple weeks have taught me is that i think maybe the only way to be successful while conducting research is you have to be really really okay with taking 1,2,3,4,5,10,50 L’s before something actually works

This Nature article shows that most Nobel Prize winners are part of one big, incestuous academic network. Out of 736 Nobel Prize winners in science and economics, 702 are "part of the same academic family." Only 32 researchers out of this network have won the Nobel Prize.
