@pastel_sinning@kyuusyuha_001 I can give a good example, I have a Lord of the Rings 50th aniversary Harper Collins edition for the collection, but I read the paperback version.
@Kanata_Harukeki@lenbruins@kyuusyuha_001 I've noticed a lot of Japanese people tend to see manga and anime as far more disposable as western fans. This may be where there is a disconnect. If we are fans of something, we support it over and over. We collect things from what we are fans of, even if we've read it before.
@EdensNexus@ComputerLove_ That is a cool solution, I drive a Seat Leon and use the proprietary center console and connect my phone to it, which is nice when it's new and supported, but these proprietary center consoles always lose support after 2 to 3 years and then the software is just crappy
@lenbruins@ComputerLove_ I have, too. What I do now is mount a holding bracket for a tablet in my CD player, plug it all in, and use the tablet to navigate and play the music. I use a 10" so I can see it without issue or without taking my eyes off the road.
@Nina_Aerial It has improved a lot these days I can get around 95% of lightnovels and manga through rakuten and I can read them on my Kobo libra. and the rest are niche smaller ones who I reach out to to see if I can make an donation.
@Nina_Aerial@kyuusyuha_001 With the internet most overseas works are translated and readilly available, but there must be movie clubs in Japan that watch niche European/US black and white movies that are fan translated, or really old american comics that have no official Japanese translation.
@Nina_Aerial I don't like it either, but I see fan translations like Shonen Jump magazine it helps to spread awareness of new manga and if I like the series I'll buy the collection when it becomes available. Or if there is no official release I'll buy goods like figures to compensate.
@Nina_Aerial@kyuusyuha_001 Yes but it wouldn't have reached the rest of the world (atleast not in the scale it is now) if it weren't for fan translations.
@Kanata_Harukeki@kyuusyuha_001 I also want to clear something up fan translated works are never sold (and should never be sold), they are made by passionate fans out of love for the work, and in most cases the fan translation stops when an official release is announced.
@Kanata_Harukeki@kyuusyuha_001 And if there are no officially translated versions a lot of fans will buy goods like figures at conventions to make up for it.
@Kanata_Harukeki@kyuusyuha_001 Yes I did, even when there was not yet an official translated release I contacted the author of the manga and asked to donate directly to him (and this was in the 1990's via handwritten letters), and I bought the complete manga collection when it became available.
@Kanata_Harukeki@kyuusyuha_001 There wouldn't be anime and manga, especially not on the scale it is now overseas if it weren't for fan translations ("pirates"), Piracy has made Japan a lot of money by making companies realize that there is a market for their works.
@lenbruins@ComputerLove_ What I did not understand is why they had not gotten to the MP3 dash units for cars yet. I didn't get my first until somewhere around 2005. The ones in the years before that were super expensive and usually came with laptop HDDs in them so you could rip your CD to your stereo.
@lenbruins@ComputerLove_ Yep. It was cheap, I got a Chinese knock off at a flea market in NY. It was $110. Worth every penny at the time. Only thing, and you know this, when I hit a bump that thing skipped like kindergarteners at recess.
@JUN_SAITOH_WHR Thats about the same price we pay for it in the Netherlands. and to be honest the quality isn't what it used to be, you can get similar style grills from a house brand for a quarter of the price and the quality controll and finish will be better.
@GameStalgiaX For me it's between the PS2, Snes and I still love my Dreamcast (between PS2 and dreamcast the same games on the DC looked so much better such a shame it was a commercial flop)
@EdensNexus@ComputerLove_ Was that already a thing in 2001? must have been really freaking expensive, and I wonder how much the price difference was between the ipod gen 1 and a mp3 discman.
@ComputerLove_ In 2001 I had an MP3 CD player and about 10 discs that encompassed every song I would ever want to hear and every song I though a customer would want me to play.
@droidbuilds Does brave still have that crypto curruncy stuff in it? makes it feel untrustworthy to me, and still Chromium based so I'll never use it (I don't want the only choice of browser to be chromium with a diifferent skin so I'll use anything else)
VLC it is simple, dependable.
@darlingstrawbie Christianity the religion based around Jesus the man who had a sex worker as one of his closest friends? Catholicism the religion that has multiple patron saints of prostitutes I think you're a bit confused.
if you’re a Christian you should be condemning ALL types of porn. none of it is good. if it’s porn, its degenerate and bad for your soul.
im surprised some people are confused by this.
