@MannGeorgia @Spectator_LIFE @BBCRadio3 Hear hear! As someone who has devoted a lifetime to classical music, I’ve always believed its power lies in sharing it widely, not guarding it jealously. The greatest damage to classical music often comes from its own gatekeepers.

@classicjacko @Telegraph Agreed! There are too many insufferable snobs in classical music - most of whom have rarely, if ever, ventured out onto the concert platform, let alone engage with their communities - who do the art form incalculable damage.

Whenever attempts are made to widen the appeal of classical music and welcome new audiences in, there’s a wearingly predictable reaction from certain quarters. I’m therefore grateful to the @Telegraph for printing this letter:

@classicjacko @guardian I have devoted most of my teaching life to @TrinityLabanMT precisely because of its demonstrably wider intake of students. To teach those who have been relatively disadvantaged in life requires great skill, and commitment. But, the reservoir of goodwill is NOT endless.
