It was said of Winston #Churchill that he mobilized the English language and sent it into #battle. Trump’s trick with the mother tongue is to douse it in gasoline, set it on fire and drop it in a dumpster in the middle of his own parade ground. #WSJ wsj.com/opinion/in-a-w…

@gerardtbaker They’re not alone. White South Africans had a few years of infamy, but Russians might be the most enduring

Interesting, media that most disapproves of Murdoch is giving this @gabrielsherman book so much attention. It’s only 185 pages of text (plus copious Notes, etc) & lifts hugely from other books, including one of mine. What newspapers call a “clips job”. Pretty slender for £25
The New Yorker@NewYorker

Many Murdoch narratives focus on the story of Fox News and Donald Trump, where the dumpster fire really begins to light up the modern sky. But to understand the family’s empire, we might examine the Britain that Rupert Murdoch ravaged in earlier days. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/G0v4sa

‘Studying the Murdochs’ doing much heavy lifting. Interestingly some books credited were also, if better disguised, cuttings jobs. Nothing against that but for £25 expect some shoe leather.
Les Hinton@leshinton

Actually 185 pages of text plus copious Notes, Acknowledgements & Index. Pretty slender for a book selling in the UK for £25. Sherman gives credit to the MANY books he relies on, some decades old. In newspaper terms it’s largely a “clips job” plus oft repeated Murdoch hostility

Out tomorrow: “Bonfire of the Murdochs” — the real succession story of the Murdoch empire (already a #1 best-seller).  Gabe Sherman has been studying the Murdochs for nearly 20 years, and somehow managed to fit their story in 256 pages.  Read my take: tinabrown.substack.com/p/rupert-murdo…

Didn’t especially like Bad Bunny though I suspect I’m not his demographic. But why does every difference of opinion in this country have to be instantly escalated into an existential crisis of the soul of America? The SB Half Time show really isn’t the Missouri Compromise #SBLX

“The Epstein files are not gossip. They are not tabloid junk. They read like a moral audit of people who assumed the audit would never come. They don’t just shock. They explain how wealth and status harden into impunity. How we are corrupted by power.” open.substack.com/pub/martinhint…

Happy Christmas. Serious Thanks to everyone who has supported The Chelsea Citizen. In 40 years of journalism, this has been the toughest year - but also the most fulfilling. If I pull this venture off, it really WILL be a miracle in Chelsea - and in journalism! Rob. Ed. 💙

@piersmorgan @realDonaldTrump At first, I was sure this had to be a fake post. How to could anyone in their right mind, even @realDonaldTrump, put out words so disgusting? How come no one was brave enough to discourage him? And how can even his most ardent supporters not be repelled by it?

This is a dreadful thing to say about a man who just got murdered by his troubled son. Delete it, Mr President @realDonaldTrump .

Hugely important story in Sunday Times. Sixthformers need to be told which uni courses have no financial return - and which apprenticeships are the best bet. HMG holds this info in the LEO database. It’s time to make it public - so all teenagers can make an informed choice.
