@MorePerfectUS The same people freaking out over data centers today were freaking out about climate change and nuclear power a few minutes ago. Anyway, build the data centers and the nuclear reactors to handle their power and water needs. It's the way forward.

Kevin O'Leary's massive data center was approved by a county commission in Utah last night. At 40,000 acres, it would be 2.5x the size of Manhattan. The commission approved the proposal despite opposition from hundreds of locals.

"Honk if you like pizza" is a joke, the joke being "ha ha even though I'm a bad driver, you can no longer complain by honking at me, because your honking can now be dismissed as expressing liking for pizza". Note that: 1. This will not actually stop people honking at bad driving, nor is it seriously intended to. 2. The driver is not necessarily actually a bad driver, that's merely the premise of the joke. 3. Humour (both for the teller and the audience) is often based on relieving anxiety, and in this case it's anxiety over being honked at for bad driving.

@liorsela When your car gets totaled the insurance pays out the value of the car. Since FSD was "part" of the car could one not make the argument that the value of the lifetime FSD would be the cost of the current FSD for the expected life of the car had it not been totalled?

I just witnessed a Launch Edition Model Y get rear-ended, hard enough that it’s likely headed for a total loss. 😢 What makes it especially painful is that the Launch Edition came with lifetime FSD baked into the purchase price at a significant premium. Tesla made that FSD license non-transferable. So if the car is written off, the lifetime FSD dies with it. All that extra money paid upfront vanishes along with the vehicle. This is exactly why the FSD subscription model usually makes more sense for most buyers. You pay monthly only while you own and drive the car. If it gets totaled or traded in, you simply cancel the subscription. No massive sunk cost disappears with the vehicle. It’s a reminder that hardware is replaceable, but those non-transferable software licenses aren’t.

@Type07Safety Dont know why people think this is a loophole. Anybody selling them with the intent to profit have to have an FFL and do a background check. Unless you run into some random guy selling a single gun at a gunshow you are going to get a background check.

Oh, wait... I'll let Everytown explain this one: it never existed in the first place. FACT: The "gun show loophole" is a myth. No special rule for gun show existed, even before the ATF rattled off it's list yesterday. Federal law allows private sales from personal collections without background checks. It's a deliberate exemption—not a loophole. Many states prohibit it anyways with zero correlation to reduced violence.

I’ve said it many times so I’m just gonna tweet it. Red button only makes sense if you can guarantee that everyone else will press red—which you cannot. You should be willing to accommodate for those that will inevitably press blue, and if you aren’t, then you’re a bad person.

The person who runs the site has no backups of the huge collection, this means recovering everything will be very difficult without paying the attackers. The hackers are demanding 0.1 Bitcoin. They also want the site owner to post a tweet as part of the deal. If the payment is not made, the entire archive could be lost forever.
