Day 1 of FC 26 – First Impressions & Insights After a full day on FC 26, here are my thoughts on what feels strong, what seems weak, and how the game is shaping up early on. Initial Opinion The game feels okay. It’s not amazing, but it’s not bad either — definitely a step up from last year’s launch. That said, there are still some frustrating elements: bounce-back situations feel odd, and AI movement can be inconsistent. But overall, it’s a playable, balanced starting point. Strong Mechanics So Far 🎯 Finesse Shots Inside the box, finesse shots felt like one of the most reliable ways to score. With Silver PlayStyle, the shot consistency improves noticeably — fewer completely wild misses. With Gold PlayStyle, the conversion rate increases dramatically. Even when positioned awkwardly, like with your back to goal, I found finesse shots going in more often than not. Shot power also feels very strong, with the ball firing off like a rocket. ⚡ Low-Driven Shots Just like last year, low drivens are a dependable way to finish in the box. Without the PlayStyle, though, they felt weak — most attempts were saved. With Silver PlayStyle, they became highly consistent, going in about 9/10 times. ✨ Trivelas Still dangerous inside the box if you have the right space and angle (right-footer on the right, left-footer on the left). Outside the box, however, the effectiveness drops. The new loopy animation on long shots makes them far less threatening. You need the Game-Changer PlayStyle for them to work properly — but there’s a catch. Even if you don’t press L2/LT, the PlayStyle can activate on normal shots, forcing a trivela animation. When this happens across goal, the trajectory makes it much easier for keepers to save. Overall Play & Scoring Patterns For me, there was one clear way of creating consistent chances: Through balls and runs in behind. 1v1 dribbling and skill moves feel less effective, so beating a defender comes down to punishing over-aggressive defending or passing quickly around them. Early tactical setups that stood out: 4-4-2, 4-4-1-1, and 4-2-1-3. Around the Box Resetting chances and circulating the ball is still effective, but compared to previous years, the box feels much more crowded. There isn’t a specific skill move or burst dribble that reliably breaks through — patience, timing, and pulling defenders out of position are key. The main issue is that even when you create small gaps, it’s harder to capitalize due to the lack of explosive movement options. Player Locks & Creative Runs These tools are extremely valuable under the new AI defensive behavior. The AI backline stays very touch-tight, giving you no room to turn. Using player locks and creative runs lets you pull attackers into space the AI won’t track. This forces your opponent to manually switch defenders, which often creates gaps. If they overcommit (as many will), you can exploit it with a through ball or a quick pass sequence to get in behind What’s your guys early impressions of #fc26?
