🧵Our new analysis reveals that Canada provided over $18.6 BILLION to oil & gas companies last year and $65 billion over the last four Taxpayer dollars should not be going to the very companies fueling both the climate and affordability crises that are hurting so many today
EnvironmentalDefence@envirodefence

#MEDIA: As the climate crisis escalates, the Canadian government keeps pouring billions into fossil fuels. Despite promises, new analysis exposes how $18.6B in taxpayer dollars continue to fuel #pollution, not the solution. #cdnpoli More here environmentaldefence.ca/2024/03/27/as-…

Classic Canada to announce a new fossil fuel project in the midst of the UN climate talks while “affirming” that it’s still “committed” to climate targets it’s not going to meet because of said fossil projects.Gotta laugh to keep from crying at this point thestar.com/politics/feder…

If industry doesn't pay to clean up the oil sands, you will. ACFN has filed a judicial review of Alberta Environment and Protected Areas’ decision to renew the rules for Alberta’s Mine Financial Security Program (MFSP). Here's why: #ableg

Oil & gas companies -- emboldened by their influence over Trump -- are pushing Canadian politicians to jump on the same fossil fueled bandwagon But fossil fuels come at a huge price -- including the nearly **$30 BILLION** provided to oil and gas companies last year by the feds
EnvironmentalDefence@envirodefence

🚨 In 2024, Canada handed nearly $30B in subsidies to fossil fuel companies, fueling pipelines & an aging industry at the expense of health, the environment, & our future. 🌍 It's time for sustainable energy solutions. 🌱 Read the full analysis 👉 bit.ly/3RxJUhe #ClimateAction #EnergyTransition #EnvironmentalDefence

Gaza-Israel: Ceasefires must never be political bargaining chips. When climate justice and social justice are so inextricably linked, the climate justice movement cannot remain silent in the face of a genocide that destabilises regional and global peace, security and a sustainable future. climatenetwork.org/2025/03/20/gaz…

#Media - "Canada’s industrial carbon pricing rules mean that big polluters pay for their pollution. It’s a good model: corporations, like oil and gas companies, should be paying for the harm they cause to our air, land and water. And the rules work: they have effectively driven down pollution levels more than any other measure." @lev_jf Read our full response here: environmentaldefence.ca/2025/03/17/sta…

The math is that if Canada were to spend $3.6 billion more per year to reduce poverty with a guaranteed basic income, they would spend at least $32 billion less on the costs of poverty. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
UBI Works 🇨🇦@ubi_works

New PBO Report estimates a Guaranteed Basic Income can reduce poverty by 40% nationwide at a net cost of just $3.6B/year and 1% impact on hours worked. Poverty costs Canada $80B+/year.
