@muenstergg Really good. I’ll add that conditioning in CS is more than just the ‘default’ smokes you throw from spawn. There’s so many opportunities, mid-round, to overwhelm the opponents with info.

Someone just sent me a video of an MMA fighter explaining what he called "overloading the opponent". Essentially what he said is that when he's fighting, he wants to give the opponent a bunch of useless information/stimuli to make his mind and body react as much as possible that way further into the fight, when he wants to actually make a move, the opponent is going to have a slower response as their mind becomes accustomed to the movements and less focused. This got me thinking about Counter Strike.
In team CS, an aspect that doesn't get much attention is conditioning. The act of repeating certain actions that are noticable to your opponent to be able to give yourself or your team an opening in future rounds by suddenly disrupting those actions or layering things on top of them. Conditioning can be viewed basically the same way this fighter explains in the video. As a player/team, an effective tactic can be giving the enemy useless information such as fake sound queues, repeating certain peaks/plays, using the same utility multiple rounds in a row, or being passive/aggressive on specific parts of the map to force them to feel pressured, give certain communcations, rotate/fall back, or use specific utility to feel safe in their position.
Once you've establish these paterns on your offense or defense and given your opponent time to get comfortable seeing those stimuli, you have an opportunity to pull the rug out from under them and use those things to mask something bigger that they won't expect. In those moments you're more likely to catch them thinking things like:
- "they've been throwing these nades every round but not doing anything so this time I'll save my molly" then BOOM! you rush them
- "they've been taking this map control every round but leaving it so I'm not going to ask my teammate to rotate since I won't need their help" then BAM! you full exec their site and block anyone from rotating in to help them
- "their lurk throws that smoke on this timing every time they want to end B we should 4 stack B" then BANG! you contact as a group and trade out the solo player.
Conditioning is a really interesting aspect of CS to think about. It's difficult to do consistently and often takes strong coordination to implement effectively, but when you finally do it right on that swing round half way through the game, it's an amazing feeling. Knowing you've had the other team eating out the palm of your hand the whole time then read them like a book inspires so much confidence for the rest of the game.
One thing to keep in mind though is that these sorts of things can potentially work against you so as well. Maintain focus and think how what you're doing might be affecting the way the other team is making decisions. They could potentially find a way to pull the rug out from under you using your own conditioning like you're trying to do to them.

@dust2us @WantedGoons If I'm not mistaken, the core of Sol and Atomik are actually playing under Victorum and are no longer associated with WG.
